Which Better for Caribbean - Princess or Celebrity?

Which is more luxurious/more fun/better food for a Caribbean cruise, Princess or Celebrity? Which has nicer, roomier cabins? We are 2 families with 4 teenagers between us. We have cruised with Celebrity very happily for 4 years, but would like to see some new islands. We think we should change to a different line to see some new sights. Please give us some guidance!

Hi Lois,

Not THAT much of a difference between the two lines. Since apparently you love to cruise it may be time to try another line. After all, how bad can it be?

Paul

P.S. Cabin size depends on the Category chosen. A travel agent can tell you the size of all the cabins.

You don't need to call a travel agent to get a feel for the cabins - go to mytravelco.com and you'll be able to see the cabins for yourself - under cruises then 360 degree ship tours. Paul's primary purpose is to get you to use travel agents BECAUSE HE IS ONE!

Hello Lois-
I have been on the Mercury by Celebrity for an Eastern Carribean cruise. I have also been on the Sun Princess for a cruise through the Panama Canal.
Both were incredible trips & incredible ships!
If I had to give one the edge, it would go to Celebrity. The rooms were a little bigger & the dining was a little more upscale. All in all Celebrity just seemed to be a little more luxurious.
Would we cruise Princess again? Definitely. My parents just booked an 11 night trip to Alaska this morning on the Ocean Princess. They booked with Princess because they had a better itinerary of where my parents wanted to go.
Princess is also known to give better discounts to returning customers...
I don't think you could really go wrong with either line.
Good luck!
Amy

In my opinion, Celebrity is more luxurious, has better food and nicer, roomier cabins. "Fun" is something different to everybody, but for me, I have more fun on Celebrity than Princess.
It felt very crowded on Golden Princess, and ridiculously so on days at sea on the top deck. WAYYYY too many people! The biggest let-down about Princess was the level of service; very spotty, I felt. Some of the bar staff were downright surly...not a cruise-enhancer for me.
If you really want to see some new sights, I'd suggest trying a new itinerary, not a different cruise line. In my opinion, going to Princess is a step down from Celebrity.

I have enjoyed our Princess cruises better then my Celebrity cruise.

If I had teens, I would definitely do Princess. The teens I saw on Celebrity were very bored. Their teen program is inferior to Princess's.

I thought the rooms were bigger on Celebrity but I will still take Princess over Celebrity.

On Princess - I liked having the buffet 24 hours a day, I liked having pools open 24 hours a day and fresh water in the pools. I preferred the staff being more friendly and helpful on Princess.

Supposedly the food is more gourmet on Celebrity. Ours was not - it looked pretty but wasn't as good as our food on Princess.

Everyone has different tastes . .I am off to Princess for my next cruise.

If you want the "funniest cruise" for your teens - look into Explorer/Voyager/Adventure of the Seas. The food wasn't as good as on Princess but it is a very fun ship.

Hi Lois, We cruised this past January to the Western Caribbean on the Grand Princess and had a wonderful time. We had two inside rooms, one for parents, one for children (ages 22 and 14). The Grand Princess was more than we expected and especially nice for my husband who was not excited for the vacation. Needless to say our family is hooked on cruising because of the Grand Princess. Dining rooms were wonderful and food was terrific. I enjoy good food, would rather not eat if it is run of the mill or average. I'm not a snob, just love well prepared and tasty meals. Mealtime was one of our favorite memmories. Waiters, excellent. 24 hour buffett was average to me but my family enjoyed it. Entertainment, above average. Loved some of it and others were mediocre. Lounge acts great. Didn't gamble, play bingo, trivia or go to the art auction and I didn't feel I missed out on anything. So many things to choose from. Theme nights were great fun. Rooms (inside) were perfect, we didn't feel crowded. It was a cozy feeling and besides, you don't spend much of the day in your room. The room stewards were excellent. If you have teens, they have a great program. My 14 year old made new friends and spent most of the vacation with the supervised program, we mostly saw him at dinner. If you want to try a new ship, Grand Princess is the one. We're cruising to Alaska this July on Celebrity and I know Celebrity is considered a better cruise line, but if you have as great a time as we did on the Grand you're in for a terrific vacation. Good luck.

Last March we were on the Sea Princess to the West Carib. Last week we were on the Century (Celebrity) and went to the E. Carib. I would definitely do either again. If cost was the same or very close I would probably pick Princess. I very much preferred the pool on the Sea Princess, he liked the library on the Sea Princess better. We thought there was more choices for shows after dinner on Princess. The grand buffet on Celebrity was AWESOME! It truly was amazing, we only looked at it-didn't eat anything. We had the late seating and was not interested in any of the midnight buffets or gourmet bites. He liked the food on Princess better, I thought both were comparable. Celebrity is a bit more gourmet I think. Inside rooms on both-maybe a tad larger on Celebrity, but we were plenty comfortable on Princess. Both were crowded on sea days. The service we had was excellent on both. I thought the Sea Princess was prettier that the Century-although Century was lovely. I'd say both lines would be on the same step. You could always find something to eat at any time on either ship. We don't do the buffet's too often (always eat too much!). Breakfast and lunch in the dining room on both ships was enjoyable. I felt pampered by both. Pool being open 24 hrs not a big deal to us-only swam during the day. Overall, like I said I think they're pretty much equal but I'd probably go Princess, unless Celebrity was a significant savings.
