Where to stay near Port Civitavecchia, Italy?

Taking a Windstar Cruise from Port Civitavecchia, Italy. Would like to stay one night before boarding. Are there decent hotels near the port? Did not want to stay in Rome and drag our luggage back and forth. Would prefer to take a train or taxi to the city of Rome and then return to the port. Also if there is a hotel, what transportation would be best and how long will it take? Thanks!

We did the same thing last yr. and for the same reason. We stayed at the hotel San Giorgio and I recommend it. The service was very good and the price moderate, around $155.00. We had dinner there one night and the bill inc. two bottles of wine for use on the ship was also moderate though I don't remember the figure. I was surprised at how relatively inexpensive it was.

We too a limo to Civi from FCO and IIRC a shared ride was about $75.00 and it takes about 45 mins.

Cheers, Larry :-)

We stayed at the San Giorgio as well, it was fine, very clean, good bed, nice bath, good dinner. Sort of relaxed Italian service but that was all right, we weren't in a hurry. It was a Sunday night and they were obviously wrapping up after a weekend of weddings, family dinners, etc.

They provided a shuttle bus to our ship, if I remember about 10€ per person. Now that I think about it we should have priced a taxi as there were four of us.

Just to clarify, Civitavecchia is too far from Rome to take a taxi unless you want to drop 150 euros just to get into town. Besides, the train is probably faster.

There are recommendable hotels in Civitavecchia, but if you've never been it's certainly worth it to spend the night in Rome.
