Where do the celebrities hide?

Where do the "celebrity" performers hide on the ship when not performing. Susan Anton was on my cruise to Alaska. I saw her get on the ship in Vancouver. She performed the second night and then got off two days later at a port in Alaska (presumably to get on another ship). Other than at her performance, she was nowhere to be seen - not at meals, on deck or anywhere. Do these performers just sit in their rooms for 4 days and take all meals there? How dull is that?

Hi Nancy,

On all mega-ships the "celebrities" have their own suite and they eat with the upper officer staff in the officer's quarters. They also have their own entertainment area along with the musicians and casino staff. They have their own pool and sun deck.

Quite a bit of time is spent rehearsing with the band.

There is an entire min-city below the passenger decks and it is an extraordinary place.

Sometimes you will see the celebrities in the casino if you hang around there all day and night.

Paul

I am not sure I would call Susan Anton a "celebrity." She is a has been in the biggest sense of the word and when she was a "star" it was the tinyest star in the universe.

I think she could mingle with the passengers and noone would care or notice. Maybe she does not so her ego is not bruised when no one notices her.

I saw one of the comedians at the karaeoke one night and everyone recognized him. He even got up and did this great elvis tune.

I don't think that many "celebrities" are on cruise ships. Some people may have been on tv once or twice but that certainly does not elevate them to celebrity status.

Louis Rukeyser can be found at the tables in the casino.

Thanks for the information Paul.
I agree with the rest of you that Susan Anton and the others that generally perform on cruise ships are celebrities in only the loosest of terms. That's why I put it in quotations.

Who Jul 30th, 2002 08:45 AM

Does anyone really care about celebrities? They think they're better than the "Average Joe" so who cares where they are or what they're doing?

Who cares about "celebrities"?
The real celebrities are the moms and dads working their tails off day in and day out to have a decent life for their families. The average working person is far more important than some full of air "star" who could care less about anything but themselves.
Just my opinion.

let's be honest.

When a "celebrity" performs on a cruise line, they have hit the lowest of the low jobs in show business. They take these humiliating jobs because they have to pay a mortgage just like the rest of us and these jobs are the only ones around for them. Ms. Susan Anton, you don't need to hide from the other passengers. We would not recognize you if you bumped into us, knocked us down, and then showed us your passport.

i disagree about the Lowest of the low comment.

If I were a comedian, I would enjoy including some cruise ships on my tour of night clubs. They get to go to cool places and get some free food and drinks, and great weather.

That probably beats some little dump of a comedy club in some small towns.

We had Yakoff Sminoff (sp?) on the Explorer in December. He was only on the ship for half of the cruise (flew to San Juan and boarded there). He brought his 2 kids and his parents. They were seen throughout the ship - I saw them in the buffet area and by the pool.

Don't know if he is considered a "celebrity" but that is the only performer I have recognized the name of on all of my crusies.

Who,

There are a lot of celebrities that people care about.
The main celebrity is "Paul". His fan club will follow him to the ends of the earth. They'll even book a crappy cruise ship if they have Paul's blessing.
