What will the weather be like on a New England Coastline & Canada cruise in September? What types of clothes for Holland America?

travel347, the only thing I can suggest is to go layered. I'm sure mornings can be cool and I read that on top of Cadillac Mountain it can get very cold and windy. You have the same dilema that we do. We're going on Sept. 12 and can't decide how much clothes to bring. I will be prepared with a single pair of shorts though, just in case. I will mostly wear long pants and maybe a short sleeve top and bring a jacket. Definitely bring the best walking shoes you have. Have fun!

I am going on a cruise to canada/new england. leaving out of quebec on sept 27. which cruise are you going on? i hear layering is the best way!

Never been on a New England cruise but since I live here I can tell you for sure what the weather will be like - variable and everything. You may get some sunny sit-by-the-pool days and you may get some why-did-I-not-bring-a-heavier-jacket days. We ran into the same problem on a summer Alaska cruise

So how do you avoid bringing everything you own? The obvious layers - but try to find some thin, short-sleeved tops you can wear with a nice jacket to dinner and then use as the bottom layer on your trips into the real world. Certainly a wind breaker/water repellant jacket, preferably lined - with layers underneath. Everyone lives in fleece - with something under or over as the weather demands. Unless you are into real hiking, a sturdy pair of sneakers/running shoes will be fine for your feet. I would seriously bring a pair of light gloves and a hat - better to laugh at yourself when you unpack than not have them if you need them.

For shore trips, this part of the US/Canada at that time of year tends to be quite casual and geared towards practicality rather than high fashion. You could go into virtually any shore restaurant dressed in what I describe above. Never been on HAL - have heard it is an older, more dressy crowd on board - but will leave specifics on this one to someone who actually knows something about it.

Would definetely wear/bring a sweat shirt and turtle neck...Heard that the colors are changing right now in Canada.. Gail, we have done this twice and it as you know living in this area a "crap shoot"..If your going on a whale watching excursion (highly recommended) something warm and with a hood.
