What to do for a day in Cozumel and Grand Caymen?????

Hi there,
we are going to be on the Equinox in Jan and have booked some other excursions witht the ship but thought we would go it alone at these two ports.
We like to look at the views, good scenery, beaches, shop, eat, drink and sees the sights.
It will just be my husband and I.
Any recommendations for lunch would also be appreciated. ( We do not like seafood or anything too spicy - Enjoy Italian or a good steak )
( We have already been to Playa Del Carmen and Cancun)
What are your suggestions?
Thanks in advance
Donna

Q -- you posted this on the Mexico board as well, but Xel Ha is NOT on Cozumel. It is on the mainland, south of Cancun.

Xel-Ha is about an hour drive from Playa del Carmen. You can get there from Cozumel, but it's a long day doing so. Not something I would want to do if coming in from a cruise ship.

In Cozumel, there is Chankanaab Park for snorkeling, several beach clubs and Aqua World. I like Pancho's Backyard for lunch. There's also the standard Carlos & Charlies, Sr. Frogs and Margaritaville.

The main attraction in Grand Cayman is swimming with the Sting Rays. For a beach day, Sea Grape Beach offers facilities for a fee for cruise passengers. There is also a bontanical gardens or try a Island tour. Plenty of restuarants in Georgetown.

Thanks everyone for your ideas and tips.
It is appreciated.
I will check out the restaurants you suggest.

There are some nice Mayan ruins in Cozumel, try San Gervasio first. The Cozumel port has been fully rebuilt a few years ago. It is totally different from what it used to look like from 10 years ago.

Everyone wants to go to Hell in Grand Cayman just to say they have been there. We like the Atlantis submarine adevnrture. There are lots of nice beaches all over. Since Grand Cayman is a tender port, you may not land at the main port if the sea is rough. There is an alterabnte peir which is about $5 cab ride away from the main downtown/old town core.

If the sea is really rough, you may not even land at all. It was our third cruise to Grand Cayamn that we actually managed to get ashore. I guess we picked the wrong time of year to go.

Thanks eschew for your ideas.
What time of year did you visit Grand Cayman?
Hopefully, the weather will be suitable when we are docking there in Jan.
Thanks

First time was in late January 2001, and the ship refunded the port charges as we did not land. The second time it was in early February and we didn't land eitehr. The third time was November and we finally set foot on the island but we landed on the alternate port facility (where there is no facility at all ... ) and it was a $5 cab ride to town.

We did the Atlantis submarine and throughly enjoyed it. I thought it was only $99 (or was it $149?) We were there for much of the whole day so we have time to do a city tour, went to Hell and back (not all that far), did the submarine, even managed to spend an hour at the beach before heading back to the ship.

We love seafood so I won't be able to recommend anything for you. (lots of good beef where I come from ...) Below is the link to the Grand Cayman restruarant guide. Most of the top restaurants are listed, including menu and pricing.

La Mission in Cozumel has been there for ages. Good Mexican Food (and seafood too ...) In that part of teh world, seafood is very much a staple item. (Not to be confused with Casa Mission)

Good luck on your trip!
