What goes on at the Captain's cocktail party?

I have never been. What takes place?

How many people attend?

Hi Jerry,

Immediately before the formal dinner in the dining room (check your activity sheet for the time) everyone that is into that sort of thing meets in the showroom for hors d'ouvres and cocktails (complimentary). You may shake hands with the Captain. He introduces the officers and the band plays for dancing. Yes, it is crowded. Anywhere there are free drinks you will find a crowd.

Enjoy,

Paul

I would add that each line is a little different. Some have it in one of the lounges, some have it in the atrium. Some serve champagne and maybe one tropical drink, some serve any alcholic beverage you want (even if they aren't carrying them around on their trays). Not many care about the Captain - just the drinks.

At the Royal Caribbean parties they have free hor dourves as well as free drinks. You can get in line and have your picture taken with the Captain. During the program, the captain talks about up coming ships and the state of RCL. I missed the Captain's cocktail on the Destiny, so I am not quite sure what Carnival does, but it is about the same. Usually several hundred people attend.

I agree with Peter. This meeting is really a carry over from the classic days of cruising. People nowadays are more concerned about the free drinks. Not that I am excited about meeting the captain either, but on the RCL cruises, it was interesting to find out the cruise news before it hit the newswire.

The Captain's coctail party if also an opportunity for you to have your picture taken with the Captain. Of course, it can then be purchased for a small fee.

Nothing much. You have a drink and a few munchies. In our case the captain didn't have a chance to talk to us. Most people who have travelled with the cruise line before are invited. It's nothing to be upset about if you miss it but if you haven't gone try it once.
We were on the Sundream.
