Cruises are great, relaxing and fun. I am not sure what age you are.....But Holland America tends to gear towards older clientel, and Princess tends to gear to more of a broad range of ages including singles, families, couples etc.....Holland America is more laid back than Princess is.
They are both excellent ships and you will have a great time on either....depending on your age (if you are 45 and under I would go with princess.... Happy Sailing!!
Was on the Maasdam this past June for a Baltic Sea trip. The ship is great! I think we're going to book her again for a November trip to the Eastern Carribbean. Can't agree with the age thing entirely anymore. Lately there seems to be a lot of the 30-50 crowd as well as the 60 plusers on Holland America.

I've been on both and would vote for the Maasdam. It is very classy and a superior product. I also disagre with the older age thing...they've been getting away from that for the past few years. There are all ages. I think you'll have a great time whichever you chose.

I have been on the Veendam, Ryndam and Zaandam. I highly recommend the Maasdam. The Maasdam is slightly smaller at 50,000 tons and a more intimate ship. It has a two deck atrium. The Sea Princess is 77,000 and has glitzy/towering atriim. The former carries only 1200 passengers while the latter carries 2000. One other difference is the cabin sizes. The Sea Princess has small cabins while even the inside cabins on the Maasdam are among the largest in the industry.
