We're “Country Cruising”.. And Lovin It!
Although we have never done “The Watermelon Crawl” we decided to start off our 2017 cruising with a different type of cruising. Thanks to “The Flying Dutchman” we are on RCL Brilliance of The Seas on a 5 Day Western Caribbean sailing.
If the “Sail Away Party” (with free drinks) is any indication of what lies ahead then all I have to say is bartender... “Four More, Por Favor”! |
They play country music on the ship?!
For those uninitiated . here is the link to the Watermelon Crawl by Tracy Byrd. https://youtu.be/joDqu8Gu70k |
Eschew,
It's a full schedule of Country Artists... Very Cool. LoCash.. Chris Young.. Montgomery Gentry.. just to name a few :) |
DMBTraveler, did you know about this before you book? Most cruises I've been on, I'll be lucky to get an hour of special country music at one of the club with the DJ and some staff dress up in fake boots and paper cowboy hats.
|
Well I know you will make it a riot! Have fun. :D.
|
JW,
It's the first (and won't be the last) time we have booked a theme cruise and we are having a hoot even though they are playing only two kinds of music... Country & Western :) |
:D. reminds me of the movie the Blues Brothers when they pretend to be the Good Old Boys at that country bar. Belushi asks the bartender what kind of music do they play there. She said "we have both kinds, Country and Western. :D.
|
Got to learn how to find those theme cruises. We stumbled over a R&B cruise once. We didn't know it was a theme cruise until we got on board. We signed up and pay a bit extra to have access to all the private venues and shows; well worth it!
|
|
As usual, you are having fun .I get a cruise 2018 for New Years.
|
Amazing! And on top of it all you saved 15% by switching to Gecko! :D.
|
tch912,
Where is your 2018 NYE cruise? We have never brought the New Year in on the "High Seas" but it might be an interesting option in the future. |
JW,
Interesting, I almost never buy insurance when taking a rental. However, we had settled on paying $30 for a scooter and got what we thought was a bargain for $20. Nonetheless when signing the papers we got the insurance sell of $7 "to cover everything". Since it was under our $30 budget we thought what the heck. As it turned out the guy renting to us did not have changed and I only had $26... Hence the Geico reference :) |
Hey a buck is a buck. :).

DMBTraveler, we just finished the "Holiday" cruise through Mexican Riviera on the Ruby Princess. We board on December 30 and celebrated New Year's Eve and New Year Day on board. There is a TR somewhere here.
I think they had 2 parties going on New Year's Eve. December 31 was sea day and formal night, so there is a more dressy one at the Piazza complete with balloon drop et al. and looks like a pool party at the upper pool deck. We were at the Piazza one and it was jammed pack of people. They gave away top hats, drinks etc. We didn't realize there was another party at the pool deck until we saw the video, and it looks like it was packed too. They did a special new years Eve dinner menu and did a special New Years Day sit down Brunch at the MDR. They also have a special "Happy Holiday" production show which I thought was kind of lame, playing Christmas (and Wintery) music. But then, that's me the Grinch talking. That was our first "holiday" cruise and we enjoyed it, mainly for "family time" as our toddler GD, DS & DIL were with us. The holiday cruises during Christmas and New years are more expensive. We could have done the same cruise a week later or 2 weeks earlier for half the price. But then with DIL as a school teacher, taht's the only time that she could go. Supply and demand, I guess. There were also a lot more "families" (as in teenagers and young children) on board than usual. Not that there is anything wrong with it. The atmosphere and experience is definitely different than a "normal" cruise. |
DMBT, I will be sailing on Carnival Breeze. It will leave from Port Carnival on December 30th, returning January 5th. Don't forget to leave some fun for me:).
|
Eschew,
Thanks for insight. I agree with you about the pricing issues. We often have flexibility and can hardly justify the difference. We have gone earlier in December and one year did get to experience some holidays festivities but for half the price :) |
tch912,
Love "The Breeze".. Much more than "The Vista". We have been cruising RCL later... somehow they have been less expensive than CCL. Will definitely leave some of the FUN 4U !!! |
Looks like tons of fun and great time relaxing.
Curious, which ports did you stop at and what were the highlights there. Did not know that there are themed cruises, so learning from you. Have a great weekend. |
ileen,
Key West and Cozumel were the ports of call. Key West a great town to just walk around.. Lots of shops, bars with live music (all day) and tons of restaurants. Or you can take a 2 hr Jet-Ski Tour ($99.. book on your own not through ship) which we did before and it was FUN. Cozumel.. lots of shopping and nice beaches.. This time we rented a scooter for two ($27 with "Mexican Insurance") and saw the other side of the island which was a pleasant surprise. The "Themed Cruise" was different but still FUN. Checkout "The Flying Dutchman" online... They offer a lot of them all around the world. |
