Paul I like you do this sometimes for the entertainment value. And don't tell me you don't or you wouldn't keep making some of the Carnival posts that you do.

Actually Kathy, I am quite aware of what WEBtv can and cannot do. If you may have read my previous post, My Mother had one. Maybe the work you do on your computer doesn't require you to do anything more than a webtv and therefore you can't tell the difference.
Can it use Adobe? No. Can it use GIF, TIF? No. Can it open all word documents? No. Maybe YOU'RE NOT AS COMPUTER LITERATE AS YOU THINK YOU ARE. And I was addressing Sharon. WHERE COST WAS AN ISSUE. Are you and Joe related? Because you sure can't read.
TD,
Yes, I must be confused as I don't understand how an office (medical) software and hardware compares to travel related, internet related issues. How my office computer can do what my webtv can or can't doesn't make any sense to me. Of course, anyone who uses a computer knows what Microsoft Office can do and of course, I would think that any computer literate person would know the difference. HOwever, I could name several Medical software packages that I'm sure you have no knowledge of unless you are a physician or in a related field. Does that make me more intelligent or literate than you, I think not. My point is that I use two totally different packages at home than in the office as my needs require same. I'm certainly not a computer nerd and would NEVER want anyone to think of me that way. I would take that as an insult, not that others should. It appears that that is YOUR field of expertise and I think that is wonderful, however, not everyone can have advanced degrees so please be careful how you address others who you find to be of less knowledge in YOUR particular area.

Again Kathy you managed to skirt the issue at hand. I was originally talking to Sharon concerning price issues and how webtv was not the buy people make it out to be.

As far as software goes. Just about all software is written in the same language. So wether I understand the content of your software is immaterial. The concept is the same.

The programs that I mentioned such as GIF can be directly applied to everyday use, such as pictures, logos, etc. Adobe is used to open diagrams, such as ship layouts and the like. There is a number of things you can't do at home on webtv. You just don't know them.

Being computer illiterate is not like being illiterate, it is not an insult. Just a part of the ever changing world of technology. The more you know the less you know.

All I'm suggesting is that you may not realize what you are missing out on. And with today's software you don't need to be a genius to figure it out.It does all the hard stuff automatically.

For instance did you know that some e-tailers have streaming pictures. You can look at a ships layout in real time. In English you could walk through the entire ship in a virtual reality. You can't do that on a webtv it does not have the memory capability and never will since it's not upgradeable. This is just one minot thing you are missing out on.

Paul, I doubt I'll ever get there any way.
What I am attempting to say is ... Webtv is a simple unit for a simple person like me. I do not like difficult things to study, I am too old. I would like to throw my darn computers out the window. I hate it when these things come up on screen ... for example .... "you have performed an illegal operation and your computer will now shut down" or "that file does not exist" or "you have too many windows open" etc. etc. etc.

Webtv is beautiful and I am looking forward to taking it with me to the rest home.

Paul

Gentleman. The reason I went to such great lengths to explain the differences is because most people don't know. I guess you can't teach an old dog new tricks, but you can change his diet.

Paul you and I have seemed to have gotten off on the wrong foot. If I can offer any advice on how to alleviate your problems (related to technical issues), please ask.

I just get frustrated when I see people being taken advantage because of their lack of knowledge with computers. These webtv systems do just that.

Also, make sure you have a line surge protector on the phone line coming in to your webtv. I good lightening storm will fry the internal modem (the warranty is only good for 3 months, and does not cover "acts of God"). Rock on.
You bet techy, I have not one, but two Panamax surge protectors that cost me hundreds of dollars each.

Since I have two Max 1500's you must now know I am not as technical illiterate as you think. I have equipment that may just blow your mind. And I love my WEBTV.

Paul

Paul. I doubt it! I'm glad you love your webtv. Like I said sometimes you can't teach an old dog new tricks. No matter how good it is for them.

If more people to an active stance in how large corporations abuse people through technical ignorance everyone would be a little richer. I believe since I am more technically adept it is my responsiblity to keep people informed of alternative possibilities. Paul you do the same thing with ships as I do with computers. If you didn't feel it necessary to inform people with your vast knowledge on travel and ships you would have stopped years ago.
Ya'know Techy dude, this is bordering on the ridiculous.

I believe you have landed in the wrong forum. It says "cruises" at the top.

Paul
