Weather in Alaska-August

We're going on an Inside Passage Alaska cruise this August 20th and I was wondering what type of weather we should expect at this time of year. Any helpful hints on what types of clothing to pack?

Thanks,

cheryl.

Cheryl,

Good vacation choice. The weather is typically still "nice". Take raingear beacuse the minute you don't they will be having a wet year. Last August it was mostly sunny, a bit of rain, and Skagway is quite chilly at that time of year. In fact they will probably have had their first snow in the higher elevations and the leaves will already be turning. You will be happy in the typical onion layering effect and definetly take a heavier pullover or sweater because being on deck is chilly, day or night. I never used my umbrella, choosing instead to use my totally waterproof, hip length raincoat with hood. Waterproofing your walking shoes/hiking boots is a good idea. All the ports sell those really cheap rain ponches that are basically disposable at the end if you do not want to lug any raingear. Have fun.
