weather for may cruise
 

early may seems to be the cheapest time for an alaskan cruise for a single person. I was wondering what the weather is like at that time of year. thanks

during this time , sometimes the glaciers are fogged over..

We went in late May 2 years ago, and it was very nice--but we took appropriate clothing. You will need a rain suit of good quality. I didn't take anything like a parka but did take a fleece jacket that will layer under the rainsuit, long johns, and fleece gloves and hat. Temps were in 40's and 50's most of the time--one day in Juneau was much warmer, about 65. It rains a lot, but we had a great time.

We've taken an Alaska cruise in mid-May and had good weather. Our day at the glacier was cold but sunny and clear. Other days were mostly in the 50's. We didn't have too much rain, but you should always bring a waterproof jacket.

We sailed Alaska during the very last possible week this past September. There were some 'doom and gloom' weather predictions for that late in the season, yet the weather was perfect. Practically no rain, pleasant temps, and no haze or fog. We went for the reason you are thinking of going in May...we got a great deal. I would go and take my chances.

I have been traveling Alaska for 10 years and this past September was EXCEPTIONAL but very abnormal. I was there the first 2 weeks and had warmer weather by over 10 degrees higher than my usual August trips. So you were lucky and no guarantees of repeating- it is usually the worse weather the end of Sept, cold, damp etc. As for early May- it is usually cold- so dress in plenty of layers and don't let the potential weather stop you. :)

I have gone twice in May and plan and I am going again in May this year. I have had days where I just had on a sweatshirt as a coat. Both times we hardly had any rain. May can be more of a dry month. The trick is to layer, layer, layer.

Consider keeping an eye on May sailings, last season, Princess unloaded their excess cabins for $399. Certainly worth an extra sweater at that price!!!!
