Voyager Excursion
Our family is travelling on Voyager (first time cruisers!) August 18 and are planning to do excursions as follows: Jamaica - Dunns River with either Peat Taylor or Ionie McBean; Captain Marvin's in the Caymans and scuba in Cozumel with Eagle Ray Divers. Any comments - pro or con - or other suggestions would be appreciated. Also, how does the guide thing work at Dunns River. Do you need a guide outside of Peat? Is that included in your admission fee? Thanks for the help.
Flori

Peat Taylor's price includes Dunn's River Falls. We found the tour was worth the $$. We got to the falls early, prior to the arrival of the cruise ship tours, which really minimizes the number of climbers. We toured Fern Gully, drove around the countryside and then he stopped for some shopping in Ocho Rios.

Flori,
Agree with Dawn. Peat was worth the money. Their drivers were great, and you go in a small group in a nice van with A/C.
When you get to Dunn's , you can ask for a guide- but you don't need it unless you are elderly, overweight or out of shape. if you have small children, it may be too difficult for them without assistance. You may need help climbing those slippery rocks. The guides are in blue shirts. They'll want to sell you a video- they are pretty pushy. Beware...you may be approached by others attempting to "guide" you and they ask you to tip them. Not employees! You can get a free guide with your admission!

We booked Ionie Mcbeam's tour. It was great. The tour didn't include the $$ to get into Dunn's River falls but we went to some really cool out of the way places after the DRF's tour. The guide (I forgot his name now - duh)was really knowledgeable and super friendly. Ionie met us during the morning. We went to DRFs early and then did the rainforest tour, had a drink at a bar on the sea and toured around the Ocho Rios area ending the day with some shopping. I recommend Ionie McBeam's wholeheartedly! An excellent experience and great price!

I don't know about the dive company in Cozumel, but both Peat Taylor and Captain Marvin are excellent.

As far as the guides at the falls, these are young Jamaican men who lead a chain of people up the falls. One guide will typically lead of chain of 50-100 people! Each person in the chain holds the hand of the person in front of them and behind them, kinda like you did in 1st grade. The bad thing is you cannot use your hands to help you climb, only your feet. Make sure you have some surf shoes, TEVA's or old tennis on your feet.

Peat arrived before the crowds so you can climb on your own or with your group. I loved not being apart of a chain because I could get in and out where I wanted, climb where I wanted, and relax in one of the many pools at my leisure. I have already climbed Dunn's River Falls from top to bottom before, so when I went with Peat, I just enjoyed the beauty of the falls. I would e-mail Peat or Ionie now to make sure you get your confirmation on the tour.

Sounds like you have some great excursions planned. Enjoy the ship - great fitness classes and the rock wall is a blast! The ice shows are nice too!

In ocho rios, did the bike ride from the top of the mountain down to a cove with snorkeling which was fun and a great way to see the island. Had lunch, then went to Dunns Falls which is definitely worth it.My kids were 5 and 7 and had no prblem climbing. Our guide followed and took pictures. Have fun.
