Voyager-disappointment
 

I just got back from a week long cruise on the Voyager and I have to say I was disappointed. For starters, they go on and on about their rock climbing wall, but I never even got a chance to try it because it was only open for an hour each day we were at port, which was 4 days out of the 7. The two days at sea you had everyone wanting to try it. Not everyone stays at port the entire time, especially in Jamaica where many passengers came back early because it's not the most pleasant place to walk around. The Johnny Rockets on the ship was bad too. The hamburgers and grilled chicken sandwiches had NO taste and they prepare the french fries and onion rings in advance so they are hard when you get them. They automatically bring them out as soon as you sit down. Dance bars didn't open until 11:00 at night, after a big dinner, I'm tired, so the last thing I want to do is sit around until the bar opens. On the 5th day of the cruise I got food poisoning. I think it was a shrimp salad I ate the night before at dinner. I wasn't the only one, several people at my table got sick, but not as bad as me. But there was a couple who had to be wheeled out of their cabins because they were so sick and they said there were 40-50 people that came in the first aid room while they were down there. Of course they tried to blame it on drinking water in Cayman, but they didn't know what to say when people told them they didn't eat or drink anything on the island. It's bound to happen I guess, feeding 3,000+ people. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful ship, but nothing to write home about. The food for lunch was the same everyday, that got old. I will say the entertainment was wonderful! They have an ice show that was great and make sure you see Dream Escape, great show! The comedians change every week I think, ours was really good. They also had a band, the Revolution play one night, they play Beatles songs and look like them, they were awesome, but they are not always there. The excursions we set up were great too! I highly recommend climbing Dunn River Falls in Ocho Rios, the Snorkel/Wave BOND experience in Cozumel, swim with the stingrays in Cayman and just rent a float in Labadee, Haiti, they only have parasailing and waverunners for the most part, and it's expensive. Beautiful island though! I've heard so many people go on about how Carnival is crappy compared to Royal, but I've cruised with Carnival a couple times and I have to say I enjoyed it more and no, I'm not a 21 year old who wants to party. I also think their food was better. I think everyone has a different experience on each cruise ship though.

I have to agree with some of your points.<BR><BR>I liked the ship Explorer (sister to Voyager) just because it was so different. But our food was not impressive.<BR><BR>I ate at Johnny Rockets 2x and I could not get fries, a burger and my malt all at the same time no matter how hard I asked. The fries come first and then you are done, then the hamburger and you are done and then the malt. I gave up after the 2nd time. Both times, my hamburger was severly burned.<BR><BR>Our food in the dining room on both Explorer and Radiance did not match up to my Carnival and Princess cruises. I did not get sick but felt like the food was lacking.<BR><BR>I would sail her again but it wouldn't be my first choice.<BR><BR>The ice show was phenomenial!

That's funny you say that about Johnny Rockets, I ate there twice too and the first time we were done with our food before we FINALLY got our drinks!

I just loved the Voyager Class ships. Have to admit on my first cruise the food left much to be desired at Johnny Rockets and I particularly did not like paying for it. On my second cruise I tried it again and the food was just as bad and the serivce was worse but at least the food was free. I had to pay for the milk-shake and it was just mixed-up flavored milk. There are passengers who did love the food in Johnny Rockets so I guess it is just a matter of taste.<BR><BR>The food in the dining room was OK. The dinner rolls are like baseballs but that's OK since the desserts are almost always made fresh (dining room only) and to die for. I never went hungry.<BR><BR>I just felt I could overlook the food since the ships are so fabulous.<BR><BR>Paul

The food in the dining room was good, I agree, but not the best food I've ever had, same with the desserts. Don't get me wrong, they were very good, but definitely not the best. That's the biggest thing that draws most people to ships though, all the great food they can eat. The Voyager is huge, yes, but the inside was no different than any other ship, big or small.

Voyager - sorry you had some negative experiences on the Voyager. I don't know how you can say that the inside of the ship is like any other ship. I can't imagine that you missed the Promonade! This 100 yard long and five story high &quot;street&quot; is one of the hallmarks of the voyager class ships. It is by far the most attractive feature myself and my family enjoyed.

I can not understand how anyone can truthfully say that the inside of the Voyager Class ships are like any other ship. I must be missing something here.<BR><BR>Paul

All Johnny Rockets serve the french fries and onion rings immediatly. That is how they work on shore. Never had a problem with the drinks coming late.

The Johnny Rockets I've been to around home did not bring out any food ahead of time and the food was really good. I guess I was expecting more out of the Voyager the way I heard people on this site go on and on about it. The ship is huge, yes, but there's more to the ship itself to make a cruise enjoyable! The service was the same as any other, the food wasn't that good and conveniences such as food or free tea being available out by the pool and dance bars not opening until 11:00 at night. I'm just glad I went in the &quot;off&quot; season and didn't pay a lot.

Wow, it sounds like you had a really bad experience. We were on Voyager last fall and we just loved it. Yes, the service at Johnny Rocket's was terrible, but other than that, we loved the ship. We are going on a Celebrity cruise next week and I hope it measures up...
