OMG -- That would put me off cruising for sure.

Rough seas, transferring to evacuation boats (or helicopters) - scary

They are saying 40 ft. Waves and expect to take 24-36 hrs. To get everyone off, 1 by 1 in helicopter lifts. We were in 18 ft. Waves in the Irish Sea and that was very scary. I can’t imagine 40 ft. Waves.

DH and I are booked on this ship for our first ever ocean cruise this summer. Our friend in Sweden told us not to sail during the winter and included March and April. I really feel for the passengers and crew and hope they get them off quickly and without incident.

I just saw a short video taken from inside one of the lounges on the ship (can't link to it because its a pay site but there are probably others on line . . .) It showed big upholstered lounge chairs, tall potted palms and others 'stuff' rolling/sliding across the floor then back again as the waves rolled. It will be really hard to get everyone off in those sorts of seas . . .

Wow, uTube very scary videos of this, things dropping out of ceiling onto clustered passengers' heads, awaiting rescue with their lifejackets, but to extricate via heliocopter will take time and well into the night! You wouldnt get me in Norway area in March, that's for sure. Am sure all are rescued by today!

Apparently the ship was able to reach port today under its own power. That’s good news. BBC reported 479 passengers had been removed by helicopter.

I wpuldn’t sail in that area in March with any company except Hurtigruten. In fact, I would only sail Hurtigruten in Norwegian waters.
