Use a TA once and get stuck with them for life??

Reading Cruise Critic: somebody used a TA to book a cruise, and he cannot book another cruise with the cruise line directly as a TA was previously used.

This sounds weird to me - where is my choice? What if I want to use another agency? Will I have to go to the initial TA to "release" me?

That's just not true - the TA only has you locked in for that single cruise.

Thank you, I hoped it won't be true!

I booked two cruises with a travel agency, the third with the cruise line, itself, because they e-mailed me an offer of a discount that was lower than the agency, so book with whoever you want. TA doesn't own exclusive right to your business.

Thats as untrue as the false belief that a passenger MUST bok excursions with the cruise line.

Frankly, that's just a silly statement. You never have to book with the same travel agent -- or with any travel agent. I suspect the poster is mistaken or has some axe to grind with travel agents or the cruise line.

As a matter of fact, you are not even stuck with a specific travel agent on the current voyage booked. You can transfer your reservation from your current TA to a different one or back to the cruise line. ALl you need is to send a signed letter to the cruise line (via your new TA)
