tubing in Belize

We'd rather not use the cruise's tour - my guess is that they'll charge more and be more crowded. Anyone know of an outfit that they've used recently and been happy with? And would you know if they take kids as young as 7?
Thanks.

We loved out cave tubing with Reggie! The ship goes to the same place, same tour but they had about 40 people on their tour. Reggie had us, a family with 3 teens and the girl friends of the driver and guide. And we paid $45 after the tour was over - the ships charged $86 to $93 and that was a coule years ago. Reggie really watched the clock so we wouldn't miss the last tender and they have a power boat to get you to the ship if you do but we were told they have never had to use it.
I emailed Reggie with questions late Wednesday afternoon as we were leaving at 5AM Friday. Imagine my surprise when Reggie called me from Belize that night!!! He asked if I had gotten his email. But, I had all ready shut my computer down . He answered all my quesions on the phone.
You can email him directly at [email protected] or call him at 011-501-422-0257 or 011-501-610-1541- best from 6-11pm Belize time. His mail address is Reggie Trapp, #8, 5th Ave. Corozal Town, Belize, Central America (no zip code).
Everyone gets a miner's lamp (there is very little complete darkness if any at all) and life jacket (which you don't have to wear) and you carry your tube through the rain forest to the river. I read an email from someone who took their 7 year old on the tour and were very pleased at how Reggie "took care of" their 7 yr. old.
Go to his web site at regtour.com or regtour.com/cave_tubing.htm
This was about our 5th trip to Belize and we will not hesitate to do this again with Reggie.
If you have nay more questions, email me at [email protected], subject cave tubing.

Some friends recommended Reggie to us as they had used him for a tubing tour. We just wanted a car and driver to give us a city tour and take us where ever we wanted to go for the day. Reggie said no problem. He set us up with a private car and driver and we were well taken care of and felt very safe. We had a great time off the beaten path in Belize. Most of what he does is the tubing and everyone that went on that liked it. I called him on the phone before we left for our trip and all was set up and priced arranged before we arrived.

I would love to do the tubing excursion, but my wife has back problems and is afraid the tubing might ruin not just her day, but the rest of the trip. Anyone have any thoughts about this?

Has anyone done a tubing/zip-line combo with a shore-based tour in Belize? Did you have any concerns about returning to the docks in plenty of time to make the tender?

We booked a combo tour that includes ATV trek and then the cave tubing. We saw it in our FODOR'S Caribbean Ports of Call 2009 book and went to the website cave-tubing.com and got all the info. They call themselves the "Masters" of the caves and we have done extensive forum research and saw nothing but great reviews. They take your booking free of any deposit or fee and you don't even pay until AFTER your tour because they claim to be 100% confident you will love it. I haven't been on the tour but hopefully all that research will pay off and we will have a great time!

It never occurred to me till one of my kids raised the question - Are there any creepy crawlies in the river - alligators, snakes and the like?
Not such a foolish question as we saw alligators when we went up-river to Lamanai.

I would like to know the answer to that. We are thinking of doing a cave tour when we go to Belize.

Since I posted about Reggie way back in March, we have gone cave tubing again with Reggie last month. We still love Reggie! But, his web site went down and he didn't know it. His host went, as he put it, 'belly up' and didn't let anyone know. His new web site is regtourbz.com. I called to make our reservations, phone numbers are on his new site, email is [email protected]. He must know if a child will be coming so he can make sure he has a life vest that will fit a child.
We were his only customers and he was going to take just us but 10 minutes before we were going to leave the ship we asked strangers if they wanted to go and they did so there were four of us. Reggie's max is 14 and then he has a guide in the front and back of the goup- not the 30-40 on ship's tours often with only one guide- and his price is still $45 plus $3 to get into the caves. There is a 30++ minute walk thru the rain forest to get to the river so if walking on dirt trails may be a problem for you, this isn't for you.
He doesn't have a 'be here by' time to start. He waits til all are there then you leave. He is VERY aware of the time you need to get back tendering so makes sure he gets you back in plenty of time.
And he also does a zip line tour which we'll do next time in Belize. Check out his new web site. If you contact him tell him the the Jones' from the Glory in Sept. reccomended him.
There are no creatures at all - only fish you don't see - in the caves or on the walk to the river. (Animals run and hide if people are around!)
