Transportation from airport in Papeete to cruise terminal
We are taking the Tahitian cruise with Oceania on the Marina ship. Oceania offers transportation to the ship from ap (maybe 4 or 5 miles but I could be mistaken) at a ridiculous cost. Has anyone done this cruise and is it possible to get a taxi or even share a taxi/van from the ap to the ship? Oceania charges a fee of over $400 for the roundtrip. We asked why so much and they told us taxis are expensive!

I understand from a friend who booked that the return transfer includes the use of a day room. Now it may or may not be true.
Taxis to the dock in Papeete cost about $40.
Keep in mind that the marina is a large ship for these islands. When I was on the Paul Gauguin in February the Marina tried to enter the lagoon in Moorea three times then gave up and carried on her way. If you want to see the islands from a fairly nice but smaller ship consider the PG.
I heard that windstar will also be back in the south pacific but dont know when.
PG is my favourite and I have done 7 cruises in FP in her. Have been on other cruiselines- regent, Crystal, Oceania, Azamara etc but for those waters there is nothing like the PG.

Glad I'm not the only one that thinks $129 PER PERSON is a little too expensive for the ride from the cruise port in Papeete to the airport.
We will be departing the Marina on Wednesday, March 26th, and
plan on taking a taxi to the airport. Even at $60, it is MUCH cheaper than Oceania's transfers. This is our first, and may be our last Oceania cruise as I feel the price of their transfers and excursions are just much too high compared to Princess and the others. Perhaps that is how they make up for including the air fare. Would be interested in hearing from anybody else about this ([email protected]).

You're better off booking your own excursions than taking those of the ship.
I did a review of our April 2013 Tahiti trip on the Rivera here

We did our own air a well as excursion planning.

Reporting back on transportation from airport to cruise ship and the return to ap. We shared a taxi both ways and split the cost--about $20 per couple. That most definitely was the way to go.
