Transatlatic advice please

This year my husband, who hates flying, and I are thinking of a cruise to get us from Europe to NY.

I've looked at prices and even with the EBS at Cunard the basic rate seems really expensive. I realise I need to think of it as a vacation in itself (difficult since usually I pay less than 400 RT for air).

ANy tips for finding a discounted price would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

We cruised from Harwich to Boston with one way airfare and yes, it was very expensive. We did get our fare through the cruise line, but I do wonder if you can buy round trip and toss the second part.

I am researching the QM2 right now:) They are offering a promo with one way airfare, did you figure that into the price? Also, you could try a price quote through cruisequick.com - I am awaiting a price from them as we speak.;) They are a consolidator for Cunard.

Hi Moxie, just in case you come back to this thread, the price quote from cruisequick did include the free air promo, so cruisequick is much cheaper than the advertised rates. Hopefully this will help:)

Plenty of ships offer repositioning cruises and it would be worthwhile to phone a good travel agent (or AAA) and get an agent who can help. These cruises can be dirt cheap and very relaxing. We love them - especially on Windstar's big sailing ships. Note that the repositioning cruises usually go from USA to Europe in Spring and back to USA in late fall.
