Transatlantic Cruise Question
 

My husband and I are planning a transatlantic cruise on the Carnival Liberty to Italy, and are wondering if 5 days at sea would be palatable. We have never been at sea that long. Also, do transatlantic ships have more things for you to do than the 7-day itinerary ships? Would Carnival be a good cruise line to take? We cannot afford high-end (Radisson, Oriental, Seaborne) cruise lines, but would be able to consider more mid-level cruise opportunities. Also, any other European destinations such as Greece would be of interest. ANY advice offered would be appreciated.

My husband and I and his parents love transatlantic cruising - we are "relaxers" and can entertain ourselves for days on end. (My husband and I are in our mid-40s.) The four of us are about to head out for our 3rd transatlantic cruise next week. We love to read and work out. However, we've also found great on-board activities - great daily lecturers and cooking demonstrations on board. That being said, we're not "type A" so you might want to check with some of those folks.

I don't know much about a Carnival cruise (my last one was in 1990). We've been on Celebrity and Royal Car. for our transatlantic cruises and loved them both.

I love trans-atlantic cruises & have been on about 6 so far (leaving on 4/23 on another). The days at sea are great, since I like time to relax and read, and stare at the water & clouds. There are definitely more planned activities than on itineraries with many ports. Usually a combo of lectures, movies, games (trivia, karaoke, putting, skeet, bingo, etc.), dance class, demonstrations (ice carving, wine tasting, chef demo) and various meals, plus afternoon tea. And, you can always work out at the spa, walk around the promenade deck, shop, drink, gamble, eat or find a quiet spot to hide away and nap.

We are hooked after two trans-Atlantic cruises..The last was a Celebrity where my husband took two digital photography courses. There was much to do or not do...lectures, art auctions (our downfall) We left from Barcelona, went to Nice, Malaga, Corsica, Porta del Dardo (?), Nassau and Rome where a group of us hired a driver and went to Tuscany...

We just booked the Noordam, Sept 28th Transatlantic from Rome to NY. It is a theme cruise with "big band dancing" and we're excited because we are dancers. (we don't compete, just have fun). We are so looking forward to this cool 16 day cruise.

Cunard is the classic cruise line for transatlantic crossings. The Queen Mary 2 has so many great activities with the Planetarium, fabulous spa, extensive library. Days at sea are my favorite because I can sit and read for hours, eat and sit and enjoy my tea, exercise, take a nap, watch movies, go to the spa. All things that are hard to do at home.

By the way, Cunard has some great prices and space available this year, too. The prices are pretty remarkable.
