Tipping and excursions

We are planning a few shore excursions while exploring the inside passage in July. Are there "rules of thumb" to follow in tipping guides, the charter fishing "crew", etc. I'm new at all this an need advice. Thanks!

My general rule-of-thumb is $1 per person for half-day tours and $2 per person full day tours. More if it is fabulous or the tour guide does something special. I seldom, if ever, have done less than that. The crew of a fishing boat, I don't know, have never done any trip like that. Maybe someone else can give a suggestion.

I agree with charli but if the fishing boat has few passengers and lots of service, I would tip l0%to 20% of the trip just like a meal.

It's customary to give everyone you meet an an excursion $10.

Charli, for "special services" you pay only $2? WHERE?? Where is it that cheap?

Thanks for the info....

I would only consider a couple dollar tip on a bus tour. Anything more- at least $5, especially in Alaska, tours are more intense and costly. As for fishing trips, they usually have a "tip jar". Again depending on the lenght and help given, $5pp would probably be the minimum.
