Time To Decide?

We are booked on QE2 to leave December 11th on cruise from UK to USA then to Caribbean and finish at NY before flying home. We have to pay up by next week and now my husband is doubtful of going in case the war hots up further and because we fly back to London on British Airways. He seems to think the QE2 is a kind of Western symbol and BA is our UK flag carrier and thus we are vulnerable. I am a bit nervous...particularly about flying. But then I have always hated flying and cannot see this time will be any different.
Have any of you cancelled because you have to fly as part of your cruise?
I would love to hear your opinions..quickly before the money is due!
Hi Anniel,

I have flown to the Carib. twice since the attacks and I can tell you that when they tell you to get to the airport at least 3 hours or more before your flight they mean it. They are practically stripping some passengers. Some airines are manually searching all bags. Lines are extremely long.

The security on ships is even more intense. Make sure your documents are in order since immigration is extremely alert.

The QE2 is a huge one-time warship. It would take an atomic bomb to take it down.

Thousands of planes are flying every day.

No boat, large or small, can get anywhere near a cruise ship. Many Coast Guard boats are in the water at every port.

Enjoy your vacation.

Paul

If it's any comfort, the QE2 is no stranger to strict security. Even about 10 years ago, a routine practice while they were in NY was sending divers down to check for explosive devices that may have been attached to its hull and such stuff. I heard this from a friend's dad who was a harbor pilot at the time.

Thanks so much for your posts...they are a comfort. Tony Blair keeps urging us all to get on with our lives and I think we have decided we will go...I cannot see that our insurer will ready to give us back our deposit. We will pay by credit card and that gives some financial protection if the cruise should be cancelled. We only have one flight..back to UK. I agree that security is now much tighter here and in USA. I will not moan at all about securty checks or long lines before boarding! All the best from london

Yes--Listen to Tony! Hell, I wouldn't mind having him as OUR next president. He absolutely rocks!
