Thoughts on Carnival Destiny?

We are planning to take a cruise sometime in Mid April to the caribbean. we are thinking of going on Destiny. I have heard mixed reviews about Destiny(its too big, long lines, not so great food...)
I have been on Carnival's Fascination and I loved it.

Please let me know your likes and dislikes.
Thanks in advance.

We sailed with another couple who had taken this ship and they told us that it was just too big to manage. They said they were lost all the time.

I've sailed a lot and that is my favorite ship. We had a room near the back of the ship that had a large balcony and it was wonderful!! I would recommend the Destiny to anyone!

We sailed on the Destiny a couple of yrs ago - it was fine as ships go. Yes, it is big but not overwhelmingly so. We did not feel overly crowded except around the pool areas where everyone seems to want to be at once. There were, however, areas on the Promonade deck that no one seemed to use - nice comfortable lounge chairs there too! We are not cruise people -- much prefer a land based trip, i.e. Europe, flying to Hawaii, etc. so we probably didn't enjoy it as much as others. Food was so-so -- rather institutional and bland, altho pizza was good. Cabins were decent sized but not like hotel rooms, bathrooms were OK, showers good. Mixed age group from old to young - no falling down drunks or anything like that. Mostly we just felt not enough time is spent in port, you don't see much on a cruise (any cruise), other wise it was OK (if you like so-so food, lots of bingo announcements, etc. .. just not my thing.
Sail the Destiny. Granted you will get lost the first couple of days. It is not crowded except before and after the shows and when everyone is returning from shore excursions (elevators). There is more than one pool.

The entertainment is the best and the production shows will not put you to sleep.

Do not listen to what you hear about the food. Although not gourmet it is being touted by the industry as the best - equal to that of the upscale lines. Big improvement in the last couple of years.

I have sailed every Carnival ship (Destiny, 3 times).

Go and have a fabulous fun time.

Paul

To R. Yeager:
Please read as many opinions and reviews as you can, weigh the pros and cons, and make a decision based on that. Just because someone tells you not to listen to what might be a poor review of the food or entertainment doesn't make the reality of the food or entertainment any better. I travelled with a pretty diverse party of four on one of Carnival's ships this past January, and every one of us was very disappointed with the food. There were always lines for food in buffet-style areas. The entertainment was hit or miss. The decks were always crowded. In my experience, Lori's review was right on the mark. And beware of endorsements that say 'touted by the industry as the best' ... is the 'industry' really going to tout it as anything less?
