teens on formal night
Have made the decision to outfit my teenage boy (16) in dress shirt, tie and slacks on formal night RCCL Voyager in a few weeks. Purchasing a jacket for him at this point for this cruise only seems like a waste to me since I'm sure he won't wear it again any time soon. Will he be appropriately dressed for formal nights in the Caribbean as I've described? Thanks.
Hi Val,

The dress of the day - any day - for teenagers is grunge.

Your son will be a standout. You will be proud.

Times are changing. The rebellion starts at 11 now. The Fonz would be considered well-dressed in this day and age.

Paul

I agree with the comment that your son will look just fine. We were on RCCL and not only teens were dressed less than formal on "formal" nights. However, I wouldn't write off the jacket just because you think he probably won't ever wear it again. We have two sons that we bought suits for, for their high school graduation, thinking the same thing (waste of money). But they're still wearing the suits (occasionally) 5 years later.

We were on the Voyager last year and most of the boys had jackets. My son's jacket was a bit snug but it worked. This year we are borrowing one for the week. He, like your son, probably won't wear it again, until he outgrows it. Also, if you have a private prep school in your area, often there are consignment shops nearby that offer jackets for very little $$$.

Thanks for all the replies. Have stuck with my decision to NOT bring jackets for my boys. Have located many jackets at a local consignment shop but now the problem is SPACE. A family of five trying to condense everything for 10 days into suitcases is challenging. Thanks for all your help though!
Hi Val,

Do a lot of mix and match. No need for heavy jackets. There is no self-service laundry on board but you can have your clothing laundered for a small fee.

Hope you aren't stuffing 5 passengers into one stateroom. They are very small and not much room for storage.
