Star Clipper: Kids?

I did a search and read your reviews about the Star Clipper. I read Peter's remark to Paul (I think it was response to a question by Mary) about taking kids on the Star Clippers. Is it resolved that the maximum number of people in one room is 3? I have two little ones (4 and 2). Did anyone think of a reasonable solution? The ship looks like a lot of fun but taking two rooms might not be practical or financially feasible. Ideas, anyone? What if my aunt comes and one of the kids sleeps in her room. Would she be charged the single supplement?

Regards,

JK

PLEASE do not take children on the Star Clipper! The whole of the deck area is open and you will have an absolute nightmare. It is NOT suitable for children, especially in the dining room. As far as I know there are no reductions for children so you would pay full price even if they share.

Hi Jim --

I was on the StarClipper in February and I wholeheartedly support Susan's comments.

Its a fun ship but NOT suitable for small children. You would be anxious and white-knuckled the entire time. Open decks, steep stairways, no elevators, no provisions at all for little ones.

Re cabin accomodations ... I can't imagine where they would put a third person! Twin beds fill the room with approximately 20" to spare on one side and the same at the foot. Where would another bed fit?

Re your aunt .. consider her age and physical condition. Steep stairways, many trips up and down every day.

Again .. fun ship, nice itineraries, pleasant days on a "sailing vessel" .. but best for physically fit adults.

Fanci

The first two passengers in a cabin pays the full price. Age is not a consideration. The third person is discounted.

Paul

I want to add my voice to those who recommend that you DO NOT take small children on the Star Clipper. It is an accident waiting to happen! There is nothing for them to do, and they are at an age where they are into everything. II would hope that you would care about the safety of your children above all other considerations. But if that's not enough to deter you, have some consideration for your fellow passengers. This is a very small ship, and, unlike the large ships where there are a lot of choices, everyone pretty much does everything tegether at the same time. Why should all these other people have to vacation with your children?
