spring break cruising...insanity?

Two women of a certain age (okay, 60=ish) are looking for a 5 or 6 nightCaribbean cruise departing 3/25 or 3/26. We've been told that as this is peak spring break time it's a very bad idea. I've only done a quickie 3 day to Nassau at Christmas on Carnival (which I will not use again for that reason) and don't know if spring break is just asking for more of same. Comments please?

Depending upon the cruiseline, you may be OK (pick a more upscale line) but I would definitely pick something at least 7 nights...this will help weed out some of the party-hardys who are more likely to choose shorter cruises. The longer the better.

A few years ago we took a cruise during the last week of May. We didn't realize that there would be about 100+ kids on their senior class trip going on that cruise. Never, never again do I want to risk being in that situation on another cruise!! I agree with the advice above. Upscale cruises will weed out the kids, or plan your trip another time.

"Spring break" is actually about 2 months - starting in mid-February (when public schools have their first break where I live), thru Most of March when colleges let out for a week (my son has spring break starting 3/14), and then into April when other public schools have a second week off (sometimes around Easter, Passover or Massachusetts Patriot's Day). Some elementary and secondary schools have from 1-2 weeks off in March as well.

So you may have to pick your poison if you want a spring cruise.

We went once (on Carnival)in May, and had bunches of college-grad kids, adults now supposedly , who got the cruise as a grad. gift.

It was so horrible that it kept us from going on Carn. for 13 years.

Now, we only travel on those type of lines in Fall and Winter - when most should be working or in school.

The lines that have the reputation as being for older folks (HAL & Celebrity) and / or 7 days and longer - should be ok whenever. PS- always exceptions - so check if any big groups, etc would be onboard.

Have fun

Princess limits the number of kids on board.

Pat has a good point. Radisson also limits the number of children on all sailings. Something to consider when choosing a cruise ship.
