Snuba Grand Cayman?
 

Would love to hear from anyone who's done this excursion. If it matters, we'll be with kids 11 &16.

Are you looking for information specifically for Grand Cayman, or more for general information regarding snuba?

I've done a snuba excursion on a Bahamas cruise, but not Grand Cayman.

While I'm interested in GC since we're headed there, I'd very much like to hear about your experience. Thanks

I've done snuba twice and enjoyed them both so much it led to me becoming scuba certified later.

The first time I did snuba was our Bahamas cruise. Basically with snuba an air tank rests in an inflatable float on the surface of the water while people breathe out of regulators that are connected to the tank by about 20-30 foot hoses.

Before the dive the instructors/guides for the snuba tour will show you how to clear your mask while under water, as well as instruct you on how to equalize the pressure as you descend. It is very important that you understand how to equalize your ears and take your time doing so while underwater - otherwise it could be painful and it will be difficult to descend further.

How deep you go is limited by how long the hoses are, but you will be able to go deep enough to enjoy the shallow Caribbean reefs.

Each tank usually has about 2 people hooked up on either side of it, for a total of 4 people on one tank. When underwater it is pretty easy to get your hose tangled with the others also on your tank as you swim around and look at things, so every once in a while you should check the hoses.

Total dive time is around 30 minutes. Everyone who does the snuba dive should be comfortable in the water and good swimmers. If someone overestimates their swimming ability they can always hang on to the float at the surface and have something more like a snorkeling experience, I suppose.
