Small ship = more seasickness?
 

My husband and I are in the planning stages of a 25th anniversary trip. We're looking at the cruises in the Med, and Windstar is being considered. Anyone sail on this ship (or others like it) care to comment on a smaller ship's rocking? Will I be seasick the entire trip? I do very well on the bigger ships. Thanks!

Jeanne- We took the WINDSURF (330 passengers) in the Med last spring-Rome to Nice- IT WAS FABULOUS!!! No,you will not get seasick--Just carry a perscription on Antivert from your local doc ( I carry it for ALL cruises).<BR>I NEVER get seasick---we had the worst voyage of our life on a HUGE ship that carried 2200 people--it rocked all over the place! The Windsurf and Windstar are an ideal way to see the Med-they get into smaller , and more interesting ports==if you want anymore info,email me direct.....But please ,GO AND ENJOY!

I agree with Andy. We took the same cruise 2 years ago (Rome to Nice) on the Windstar and no problems at all. According to my travel agent they have an excellent system to prevent rocking. I think there may be info on their website www.windstarcruises.com. <BR><BR>BTW - our trip was our honeymoon and now that I am 8 months pregnant, there are many days that I dream about those wonderful days that we spent exploring the French and Italian Rivieras! It is something my husband and I will never forget!

Jeanne I cruise the "mega yachts" of Seabourn (200 pass.'s)Usually the Pride and the Legend. These ships are fabulous! Absolutely no seasickness They<BR>cruise all over Europe and the Med. A<BR>cruise on Seabourn would be perfect for an anniversary. The pass.'s are over 40<BR>and no children!! Congratulations and have a wonderful time!

Does anyone have any experience on a transatlantic crossing on a Windstar ship? I am going next month - any hints regarding seasickness, or any other thoughts regaaarding the cruise would be welcome.

Jeanne,<BR><BR>My wife and I spent 14 days on the Windsong (148 Pass.) in November of 2000. We sailed from Rome to Lisbon. This was during some of the most violent weather that Europe had seen in over 100 years. There were winds in excess of 50-60mph (80-90kph) after we left Barcelona. NO ONE got the least bit seasick on the ship, and we were in 9-13 foot seas. The food was exceptional and the crew could not have been more pleasant. Go on this cruise line! $ for $ it is a better value than Seaborn. Then again if money is no option, then Seaborn may be for you as you are treated like royalty. best wishes for a great cruise. Nice was our favorite port, (take the side trip to Ez) followed by Port Vendres (sp?) in France.

Anne, My Mother and I will leave next Tues. (19th) on Seabourn's Pride ship....transatlantic voyage from Ft. Lauderdale to Funchal, Portugal (31st)<BR>This will be our 6th Seabourn cruise, but the 1st "crossing." Just in case, I have packed 2 "Seabands" for us, but since we're taking the southern route I really do not expect any problems! When do you leave and from where? I will return on May 1st and will be happy to e-mail you as to the "crossing!" I'm soooo looking forward to being once again on the fabilous "Pride!"

Jeanne--The Windstar line is ALSO UPSCALE casual-- so if hubs does not want to take a jacket, NONE is required...And the average age is between 35-65 , so a 25th anniversary is right in the perfect age for this cruise line! GO--it is to die for!!

If you are at all concerned about sea-sickness simply call your physician and have him call a prescription for the "patch" in to your pharmacy. It works wonders but you must follow directions. Sea bands and ginger root are only for mild sea-sickness and it is not a proven remedy. Dramamine and Bonine will work but you will be quite sick until the med kicks in. If you take the med throughout the entire cruise you will more than likely sleep throughout the entire cruise.<BR><BR>There are no after-effects from the patch except dry-mouth. Of course, if you plan on drinking alcohol to counteract the dry-mouth you probably will not be able to read the menu at dinner.<BR><BR>Enjoy your cruise.<BR><BR>Paul

I am also on the Wind Spirit transatlantic cruise on March 30. Am curious about the weather. My trip is from St. Thomas to Lisbon, so I am assuming that it will be warm for at least the first few days (total trip is 14 days).<BR><BR>Martita - If you see this, I would be interested to find out how your trip goes.<BR><BR>If anyone else is on Wind Spirit trip, feel free to drop me a note..likewise if anyone has any tips for t/a crossing, let me know.
