Shore Excursions in Southern Caribbean

I have been reading a lot of trip reports and reviews. It seems that many people have done shore excursions through a private company in stead of the cruise ship. Should I make those arrangements before going or can you do at each port?

The cruisecritic.com forums have a board for each port-of-call. You can get some great suggestions and find out what requires an advance reservation.

I would definitely do this in advance.
1) you want to research any private excursion carefully and take a look at their website as well.
2) The really good ones may be full unless you reserve in advance.

the Puerto Rico tourist board has a link to all the endorsed tour companies and they usually provide the service , check them out at:

What ports are you going to? We NEVER take ship's tours and can give you some good ones if you let us know which ports!
