Shore Excursions

Has anyone taken the Med. shore excursions on the Liberty? Are they worth the money?

I haven't but probably not. On our Med cruise we did the excursions on our own, found it to be much cheaper and far more convient as we were on our own time. We winged it basically. Once we got off the ship there were tons of cabs or private tour guides on the pier. We cut a deal and off we went. It worked very well. Cheers. Larry :-)

Have just returned from a cruise on Liberty. (It was great) We took only one of their shore excursions - Livorno to Florence - and did our own thing everywhere else for a much cheaper price. Shore excursions from the cruise ship are very expensive.

We just returned from the Liberty and did most on our own. The only 2 we did were the excursion to Taormina and the Greek Theatre (a waste, could've done it on our own, but Taormina is far so we basically paid for transportation), and Florence on our own (for the transportation only). However, if you do things on your own, and you are late getting back to the ship, it will not wait for you. We left 2 people in Barcelona; our bus broke down in Florence and the ship waited. Jacketwatch is correct, there are tons and tons of cabs at each port just waiting for people to get off the ship.

I should add that most of our friends who did all the shop excursions thought most of them a waste of time and money.

Need to ask about paying for the private tours. Do you have hundreds of Euros with you or CCs ? and how much do you tip ? Thanks

I've looked up train station schedules and am planning to do Florence and Rome by ourselves for the excursions and travelling on the 1st class train in comfort! Both Florence and Rome are pretty walkable.
