Seven Seas Mariner dress code
 

We'll be on a 7-day Scandinavian cruise on the Radisson Seven Seas Mariner soon. This is our first cruise ever. I know what they mean with formal nights, but what about casual nights. How should one dress? Please give ideas for both men and women. Has anyone been on this particular ship? I know it's pretty upscale, but how much??<BR><BR>Thanks, Benita

Very upscale. <BR><BR>Casual nights for men, slacks with nice dress shirt. Women, nice dress or pants outfit.<BR><BR>Bring tux for men plus nice suit and for a women, dress in nice cocktail dress on the formal nights. <BR><BR>This is an expensive ship and you will be around some well heeled folks. Dress up.<BR><BR>I'm jealous, have fun.

Pretty much what I had anticipated and what the Radisson informational booklet said.<BR>It'll be great, I guess we'll just have to pack our "bestest" so we'll blend in. Benita:<BR><BR>We have just returned from a trip on The Mariner and you are going to love it. As far as dress, while it is an upsacale ship, you are going to find that it is not stuffy. Olsen gave you some great advice. A tux is not necessary but a dark suit was worn by 85% of the folks on board for the formal night. The Mariner is one great ship. Don't miss Latitudes.

Resort casual is the suggested dress code, but since it is Radisson, upscale resort casual should be what you aim for!<BR><BR>However, I like ta's response!<BR><BR>

Linda and Ginger, thank you for your responses.<BR><BR>Linda, since you have just returned from a cruise on The Mariner, I have another question for you. You mentioned the feeling is not stuffy on board. What would you say the average age of the passengers was? We're in our mid-forties and didn't really want to end up on a ship with just people in their sixties and seventies, nor did we want a "party" boat with just really young people. <BR>And also, you recommended Latitudes. Did you try the other restaurants also, and were you as pleased with all of them? What would you recommend as far as food goes, and what would you not recommend? We sailed Mariner in Jan. to S.America. We had two formal nights. I wore a dark blazer and white slacks, my wife wore a simple party dress. On other nights I wore a sports jacket and no tie and my wife wore dressy slacks and a blouse. As long as a person dresses neat and tidy, that is all one needs. There are always the 'show-offs' !! How do T.A's. get to advertise for free ?

Benita, I have a good friend from Cork Ireland named Don Collins that will be on the Seven Seas Mariner. I met him on<BR>Seabourn's Legend and he is a bartender.<BR>What a great and funny fellow! Inquire about him! He's alot of fun! As to dress I always take a pair of dressy black silk pants and I mix them with dressy blouses for informal nights. Cute,"sassy" black cocktail dresses always come in handy for formal evenings.But a long black skirt with a goodlooking "top" is acceptable. I have many pieces of black "Citiknits" that do not wrinkle and are so wonderful and easy to take on cruises. I know you will have a great time and look for Don Collins.....you will enjoy him!<BR>Martha Henderson West Texas

Benita:<BR><BR>We are in our early 50's and the average ages ranged from 40's to the early 60's. The median age was 50 and while there are plenty of show, bars etc--you will seek and will be able to find your exact level of a "party". We found the casino especially nice. One more time--you will not believe the Mariner. Enjoy

Benita:<BR><BR>Sorry I didn't answer your questions on the restaurants. Yes, Latitudes is one of the four on board. Latitudes has a fixed menu and is exceptional. Le Cordon Bleu was interesting and made for a nice evening. The Rose Compass is exactlly what you would expect from Radisson and The Veranda is an all around casual restaurant that featured Med food on our cruise. The pool food was what you would expect--burgers, chicken, hot dogs and a grilled fish all prepared while you wait. It was most tasty with a couple of cold brews, the pool and the overall atmosphere. Enjoy

benita:<BR><BR>linda, and the other posters, has given you some right on advice.<BR><BR>We are 50 and this was a young 50's crowd. The staff is outstanding and the service is great. As far as Latitudes, it is a must. <BR><BR>A word of caution since this is your first cruise, unless you use Radisson from now on, you will always be disappointed. The cattle ship cruises compared to this elegance on the Mariner will spoil you.<BR>

Your tips on clothing were great!<BR><BR>Linda, appreciate all your help, too. The restaurants do sound great and yes, the Veranda is serving Mediterranean food on this cruise also. <BR><BR>One question I have though is, does anyone wear long dresses? I was planning to bring one or two, nothing too formal or "stiff", more like fun, slinky, sleeveless styles, nothing flared or too full. Did you see any long dresses like that around or was it mostly short styles and pants outfits?<BR><BR>Maria and Neviboy, you are so right about us probably getting spoiled. We do quite a bit of traveling but have never done a cruise before, so when we finally decided to do it, my husband did A LOT of research and I know we'll be pleased with the Mariner. Now the problem is, if we get really hooked on cruising, the Mariner will probably be hard to beat. But for now, we're just going to enjoy what's still ahead of us and learn from a new experience.<BR><BR>Right now we've kind of started packing, in fact, I spent about 4 hours trying on clothes yesterday and trying to decide on a theme (we'll be gone a total of 2 weeks). Decided to bring a lot of black and white, some beige and a couple pastels for color. Benita, by all means take long dress's.<BR>I usually take a long black simple sleeveless dress, then a couple of dressy jackets and WALLA...."dressy!"<BR>Again, let me mention "Citiknits"....I<BR>take long black pants, (kinda pajama type)a long black "skinny" skirt, and a very long black jacket---all "Citiknits"<BR>then silk shells. With pearls I feel dressed for cocktails and dinner. My Mother and I cruise Seabourn twice a year and we dress every night. With simple black items we can dress up or down! I take only 1 pair of black silk evenings shoes and a black evening bag and 1 gold bag.Also, a black sequined jacket over the "Citiknits" looks smart, but simple. We ususally take the same 'ole clothes and I laugh and say, "Well, the Captain wears the same 'ole clothes!" ha! I know you will look perfect and lovely! <BR>Be sure to say "Howdy" to Don Collins!<BR>He is soooo very nice and FUNNY! Everybody on the Seabourn ships miss him terribly! Have a great time! I've heard wonderful things about Radisson!<BR>We'll be going on the Seabourn Pride probably in Nov., then again, the transatlantic "Crossing" in March! <BR> Don't worry too much about formal nights....Black is still THE most worn!<BR> Bon Voyage!!
