Santorini excursions

Sailing on NCL from Venice. We've decided to take an excursion in Santorini. Anyone done one that they recommend? Any tips or things we should be aware of?TIA

We took the tour that went out to Oia. Great commentary on the way, and pointers as to where to spend our time there.

It was much easier than trying to negotiate the public transport option.

On the day we visited there was a problem with the gondola up the mountain from the port, so our coach picked us up right where the ship tender dropped us.

I can strongly recommend this option! Oia is definitely the most scenic little village; it's what's shown on all the promotional photos of Santorini. Di

Oia is breathtaking.

If you have time, and enjoy history, don't miss Akrotiri, a Minoan Bronze Age settlement, at the opposite end of the island. It was wiped out by a volcanic eruption, or tsunami, but stood as a testament to the glories of free trade of ideas, knowledge, goods and services, as early as the 5th millennium B.C. Those folks had indoor plumbing, and sophisticated urban planning, thousands of years before Rome was founded.

Ask before you book private tour. Most ships drop off passengers at one place and pick them up at another place.

Where you go depends on how much time you have and what you like to see.

Oia and Fira is top of the list for first time visitors.
If you like old stuff, a Ancient Akrotiri & Santorini Island tour maybe in order. Winery tour is good but wine quality can be an issue depending on your taste buds.

The volcanic hike is an option is your like nature.
