Rum Cakes

My B-I-L brought home rum cakes from Grand Cayman and they were great. We are headed in that direction this year but I also found that I could order them online.

Question: What is the price difference between getting the rum cakes in Grand Cayman (and having to carry them home) vs ordering the cakes online and having them delivered to your door?

It is cheaper to haul your own, will depend on your preferences. Shipping is costly- be aware that the exchange is $1.25 US = $1 Cayman dollars, so factor out if you are willing to pay for them being shipped.

I am fussy about rum cakes and buy the same brand. Expect about $25 for a large cake.

GBelle -- I have a recipe and make my own at home. It's been a crowd pleaser.

Rum Cake
Preheat oven to 350 deg. Bake

1 Yellow cake mix (Pillsbury or Duncan Hines)
1 Small box vanilla instant pudding
4 Eggs
1/2 Cup water
1/2 Cup oil
1/2 Cup rum
Beat the above for 3 minutes. Pour into a greased and floured tube or bundt pan. Bake for 1 hour

Topping:
1 Cup sugar
1/4 Cup water
1/4 lb. butter
Boil these ingredients in a small pan for 2 minutes. Add a 1/4 cup of rum. Pour over the cake while it is still in the pan. Let it soak in completely before removing the cake from the pan.

(You can use more of less rum in the topping as desired ;))

Sprinkle the top of the cake with powdered sugar before serving.

Enjoy!
