Royal Caribbean: Is balcony room worth upgrade

The Royal Caribbean cruise I am considering is the 6 night Western Caribbean trip on Jewel of the Seas. Oceanview room is $600 while room with balcony is $750 per person. Is the extra $150 per person/$300 total worth it for the balcony?
thanks

I would do it.

joan Dec 29th, 2005 04:25 AM

I would do it too.

On seadays a balcony is great. If you have many ports to visit, I doubt whether it is worth it.

LLindaC Dec 29th, 2005 05:28 AM

Since we rarely get off the ship, we always try to get a balcony. That's a good price, too.

Leona Dec 29th, 2005 06:37 AM

It is very much worth it. When are you cruising & from where? The price is great.

$150. pp more for a balcony cabin sounds like a steal! I'd grab it.

jkforrest,
where did you find such a price of $600?

LLindaC,
how is that you rarely get off the ship?

Sorry I never cruised so I am bugging with questions. Thanks

We took our first cruise about five years ago and decided to "splurge" on a balcony cabin. Five years and 13 cruises later, I haven't been able to get Mrs. Sceneisle to stay in any lesser category. To us, balcony cabins are worth the upgrade, especially if you're only talking $50.00 a night. If you won't be spending anytime at all in your stateroom however, it might not be worth it to you.

My opinion would be different from most here but I would go with the cheapest cabin available. There is nothing to watch from balcony in Caribbean (I would reconsider if was Alaska or Europe). I'd much rather spend saved money in casino or elsewhere, as I don't spend any time in my room other than sleep anyway.

My wife and I just returned from a Western Carribean trip on Enchantment. We "splurged" and got a balcony cabin and were NOT disappointed. The cabin was by far the largest we had ever had on a cruise ship (5th cruise). Every day we ended up spending some time on the balcony away from everyone else, reading and relaxing. We had room service on our balcony (which I recommend - no charge except tip) and just enjoyed the view.
Well worth the extra cost.

IS IT WORTH $50.00 A DAY?
The last guy I heard of that had a balcony on a Royal Carribbean Ship went missing and left a lot of his blood in his cabin.

Budman Jan 5th, 2006 04:07 AM

Marycang, there were over 38,000 automobile fatalities in the U.S. in 2004. Maybe you want to stay away from cars also. ((b))

Marycang Jan 5th, 2006 07:07 PM

Budman, I think you missed my point. I love cruising. But consider this, I just would not want to be on a cruise line that would try to cover up my beloved's possible homicide.

Laoghaire Jan 9th, 2006 09:09 AM

Marycang...Who is "covering up" a possible homicide? Go to www.cruisecritic.com and get some more info before you make such judgements...Helen

We have always booked a room with a balcony. I can not think of anything better than getting up in the morning and going out on the balcony, and just looking out over that beautiful blue water. And at the end of the day, I would get a beer, prop up my feet, and look out over the ocean. I can not imagine having a room with a porthole or no view at all.

As far as falling over, really, what are the odds. I don't think that RCI has done anything wrong.

My family and I are going on a Royal caribbean cruise to Alaska this summer, and I was wondering what are the activities that we should do??

abram Feb 17th, 2006 03:30 PM

What ports?

What does your family enjoy?

luv2fly Feb 17th, 2006 07:17 PM

Balcony - - YES, YES, YES, YES, YES ! ! !
Well worth ever additional dollar.

Come on - - you are on vacation - - splurge and enjoy it.
