Rough waters in Western Carribbean??

Hi all. My husband & I just back from our NY to Bermuda cruise on Celebrity's Horizon. Coming home ws ROUGH 10 - 12 foot waves, water spouting out of the swimming pool, I (& half the boat) was so sick! Apparently I did'nt have it that bad, last month they had 15-30 foot waves, the passengers were begging the captain to turn back & go home (he did not). People had to camp out & sleep in the lobby (it was mid-ship, more stable!
With the exception of the rough ride, I adored cruising. We plan to go again soon. (But in my opinion, I would never cruise Bermuda again, it's way too rough.)
My question is, we wanted to cruise again this July (later in the month) to Western Carribbean. On a bigger sip, (Horizon was only 47,000 tons, we wanted to go on a bigger ship, mabye Grand Princess at 108,000 tons)
Is it this rough on a carribbean cruise?

Thanks for any advice!

Many years ago my first cruise was to Bermuda. I experienced the same thing, rough waters. It was in Sept. I thought this time of year would have been calmer. It could have been due to the tropical storm recently. I think this time of year is a toss of the dice. The ocean has a great deal of memory, if there are storms I suppose it wouldn't matter where you cruised to or from. I now only cruise in the winter months, and on larger ships. I nearly swore of cruising all together after that cruise to Bermuda. I was very sick. Not fun. Good luck.

I've cruised the Caribbean 6 times. The only time it was rough was last January. The breezes were strong and we were really rocking! (Navigator of the Seas, the largest) I've been on smaller ships- such as the Jubilee, where I hardly felt any motion. That's just the gamble you take with the weather, I guess.

I think there was a hurricane that went up the East Coast last week. Perhaps that was why you experienced the rough waves. It hit inland and the southern part of the US had a lot of heavy rains; by the time it reached NY/New England there was rain but not as heavy if I recall the report correctly. However, it must have gone out to sea by the weekend because we went to the beach over the July 4 weekend and the waves were rough on a usually family-oriented beach (meaning low, calm waves).

We've cruised about 13 times and one of the smoothest sailings we experienced was from New York to Bermuda in September. As others have mentioned, it's really the luck of the draw. One of the roughest was crossing from Miami to the Bahamas in March, another one was going from Hawaii to Kiribati.

HI. Grand Princess is a great ship. WHen we cruised in June we thought it was a smooth voyage. I guess its such a big ship that nothing really makes it shake! THe only problem I could think of was that it was really hot in June!!!
