Rolling on the Millenium
 

I have read so many negative reports about the Millenium having an extreme amount of rolling. If you have sailed on the Millenium, please share your experience .

We had plenty of rolling. We had an aft cabin and it had lots of vibrations, felt lots of rocking and rolling, etc. . <BR><BR>I do not like that class of ships.

Had a cabin mid-ship. Never noticed any rolling.

Best bet is to acquire a cabin mid-ships. An aft cabin would seem to me to be a poor choice because of the noise and vibrations. Every cruise I go on, I make sure I have a mid-ship cabin on a middle deck, assuring we have a pleasant sailing.

Ann- can't remember our cabin number but we had a balcony cabin DIRECT mid-ship and it definitely had stabilizer problems==<BR><BR>I ,personally , could not stand the Millennium- and won't do it again...<BR><BR>

The Millenium was built by the French. What more can you say? <BR><BR>Celebrity's earlier line of ships is much nicer.

I appreciate all the replies thus far. I don't understand how there are so many completely opposite answers -love to hate, completely smoth to rocking and rolling. Could someone please explain how this could be? I was almost convinced that this was the right ship for us but I am very concerned about this rolling.<BR><BR>Andy, why couldn't you stand the Millenium aside from the motion problems?

I think it was 8176 - it was an aft balcony on the Panaramic deck. I believe that was the cabin number - it has been a few years.<BR><BR>The vibration is what we really felt. Every night at dinner, the silverware, glasses, plates would all jump up and down from the table. If we were in our cabin - it felt like a 5 minute jolt.<BR><BR>I didn't like the ship at all. We had second floor of the dining room and the waiters had to talk escalators to deliver our food. Our food was never correct and it took forever for them to get replacements for us. I felt like I was eating our main course when we were being asked to leave the dining room for the next sitting.<BR><BR>The ship did roll quite a bit. I wouldn't sail her again. Just my opinion.

Experienced the same problem with service at dinner on the Infinity in February, our first and last celebrity cruise. Not once did everyone at the table get what they had ordered. One night the waiter set a salad in front of the man next to me and said, "I brought you the wrong salad." He didn't offer to exchange it and since it took so long to get the right food, he just ate it. A man at the table even talked to the maitre-d and nothing changed. On lobster night, the waiter placed the lobster shell on other diner's bread plates! We thought the food was average to poor. One man at our table said that the Cracker Barrel Restaurants have better food. We thought service through out the ship was poor. <BR><BR>We had a midship cabin on the uppermost deck. We did not feel any rocking and rolling of the ship. Which is wat the poster really wants to know.

Was in Cabin 9054 in October of 2000. Had no vibration/rolling problems at all. Had a table of eight and no complaints whatsoever on service, proper order, food quality, etc. Enjoyed the trip a great deal. Been on several other ships, so can reasonably compare experiences. My preference is for smaller ship, but would not hesitate to sail Millennium if the itinerary appealed to me.

Just came off Millennium's sister ship the Summit (9/24 to 10/4). Our cabin was on the lowest deck (Continental) and our cabin was 2001, which is the first cabin forward. We spent the last 4 days crossing the Pacific in 4 to 12 foot seas, and only felt slight up and down motion, no rolling. Only one night, when the seas were 15 to 20 feet, did we feel any rolling. Sometimes I think some folks have a difficult time remembering that they're on a ship, not in a hotel. Rolling will occur if the stablizers aren't deployed. This is done to increase speed if needed. The higher deck your cabin is located, the more you'll feel motion. Celebrity's ships DO have vibration in port, which is felt in the dining room areas for 4 or 5 minutes. Not a major problem. As far as the waiters getting your meals, they ALL use the elevators! Regarding food quality, check-out the top ten ships rated by pax on cruisecritics site. The top 8 are ALL Celebrity ships! Exactly what I said Bob. <BR><BR>I believe (just a guess) that when the new Celebrity mega-ships were having problems with their propulsion systems (now repaired) the captian had to re-adjust the stabilizers. <BR><BR>We have to hear from more passengers that have sailed recently such as you.<BR><BR>Paul

Had cabin 7026 on Millie 11 day 9/23 to 10/4/02. It rolls Much MORE than any ship we were ever on in 12 cruises but it was fun in the T pool with the water causing big waves in the pool & you had to hang on to the rollers to avoid being sloshed out of pool.I doubt stabilizers were working at all!<BR>BILL

My comments about rolling was comparing the Millie to the 8 other cruises I have taken.<BR><BR>It is not that I forgot I was on the ship, the rolling on this ship was beyond any of my other cruising experiences.

As I stated above, I still believe the rolling was due to the problems with the propulsion system breakdowns. That definitely caused the severe vibration. All the mechanical problems have been repaired. <BR><BR>Paul

I would call it a PITCH (FORWARD TO AFT) must be problems with stabilizers or faulty hull design! Sea wasn't rough & it still pitched enough to cause large waves in the T pool? <BR>Never saw this in any other ships ! <BR>BILL

I sailed on the Infinity through the Inside Passage last year and thought the overall motion was slight. We were in cabin # 8169, which is pretty far back near the aft of the ship, but we were also on the Panorama deck, 8 decks up. Overall, I thought the ship sailed better than both the Sun Princess and the Grand Princess, in about the same type of seas. For the most part, I didn't feel any &quot;rolling&quot; at all. I love the Millenium class ships, and we're booked on the Constellation in November for a cruise through the southern Caribbean.

Ann- We had a room on the panorama deck with a balcony=<BR>We also travelled on super smooth seas with gorgeous weather in Nov...<BR><BR>Water was sloshing out of the pool, as another person described ( was he on our cruise?).<BR><BR>Had HORRIBLE sewage odor on our floor -odor came and went-- the odors were also in various other areas of the ship, off and on , during the cruise....<BR><BR>Food is cooked on level 1-waiters have to take an elevator to level 2- which is 1 floor of dining room and then have to go up another floor to the 2nd floor of the 2 story dining room-<BR><BR>God forbid you are on the 2nd floor of the dining room-- You are almost guarenteed to have food arrive cold, your waiter dead tired and not wanting to go back down 3 flight to the kitchen to get you hot food or something different....<BR><BR>I will NOT take any of the Millenium Style ships as I feel they are floating cities.... I want to go on a calm vacation, not a cruise where the personnel are so overworked that the could care less about customer satisfaction and where the food is OK at best-- this is NOT Celebirty's best example of their ships- it IS gorgeous-but that is all I have to say good about it except , IF you go on it, your best lunch is in the Spa Dining area---<BR><BR>By the way , we have been cruising for almost 30 years and this was one of the worst experiences with the best cabin that we have ever had--<BR><BR>We have also done numerous Celebrity Cruises and LOVE the cruise line- just not the Millenium Class ships==<BR><BR>I guess it boils down to personal preference==but the Rocking and Rolling and Stabilizer and Sewage problems will remain in my head for a long time---
