Roatan via NCL

we are leaving on a cruise next week and one of the stops is roatan. Other ports of call are grand cayman, cozumel and belize (all of which we are very familiar with but it's our first time in roatan)

we would like to NOT book and excursion (we would rather "do it ourselves" to save money).

My husband will want to dive. I will probably want to park it on the beach. Is there a way we can do this? (for example in cozumel we go to a beach that has a dive shop on it, he dives, i rent a chair, and when he is done his dive, he is let out right on the beach, it works well)

Also since i will be "alone" for part of the day, i don;t want to be on a beach that is desolate. I'd like somewhere with some people, and chair rentals if possible. Is this available in roatan? Or am i barking up the wrong tree?

We won't be going until June, but here are some websites that I have found to help us decide what to do.

They are: http://www.letsgohonduras.com/web/
http://www.7blueseas.com/destination...214&rid=25
http://www.shoretours.com/ports.asp?...amp;regionID=3

Also, TABYANA BEACH says it has
private sun loungers, snorkeling, fresh water showers with changing/restroom facilities, and a local gift shop and bar.

When you get back let us know how your trip went. We are going to almost the same places.

I would strongly suggest a trip to the West End Bay. There are a number of dive shops and a great beach to boot. Grab a taxi over to the Half Moon Bay Inn and then take it from there.

If you want to read passenger reviews of Roatan, visit http://www.CaribbeanPortReviews.com.

I would highly suggest the West End Bay as a solution to your day in Roatan.

just got back and had a wonderful time.

roatan was beautiful, absolutely no need to book an excursion. My hubby dove with bananramma and they picked us up at the port and since they were right on the beach on west bay i went along for the ride :)

but there were plenty of taxis and you could easily get one to take you to west bay beach (which was beatufil) and then stroll along till you find where you want to sit

my only advice is to get out of the port. alot of the elserly from our ship just want to shop, and so they jsut want to go walking distance from the pier. Well I'm sure they were disapointed cause that was the ugliest area on the island, get out of there and you'll be doing just fine!

kadao if you have any questions about roatan or any of the other places, just ask!

can't help you with diving but we had a lovely day at Fosters - excellent snorkelling at the far end of the beach. Beach chairs and small pavillions are available to guests at no extra charge.

I'm glad you had a great time - thanks for the info. You answered my question about Roatan - we will probably do what you said - take a taxi and do a tour. Is there anything to look at on the tour besides going to the beach? Any main site we shouldn't miss? Thanks again.

kadao..i've heard a tour around the island is nice, some of the other passengers had their taxi do that for an hour before they got dropped off at the beach. Also there is a small market within walking distance of the port, it's a bit rundowns, but if you have any shopping to do, save yourself a 1/2 hour to an hour to wander around. They had some beautiful mahogany ppieces for a cheap price (apparently it is plentiful there).

But the beach and the snorkeling are breathtaking so i would let that "dominate" the majority of your day :)
