River Cruises (Danube/Rhine) - Gate 1?

I have been researching Europe river cruises for next summer and have mainly been looking at Gate 1 (cheapest), Viking (middle range), AMA Waterways (slightly higher). I am leaning toward Gate 1, mainly because I don't think I will use the many extras included in Viking or AMA (which include things like a sundeck pool, liquor at lunch and happy hour, more than 3-4 choices at dinner ...). I am curious to see if anyone has done a Gate 1 cruise lately and what their impressions were. And, French Balcony upgrades appear much more affordable.

Would love feedback on Gate 1 from any folks who have taken a cruise in the last few years. Thanks! (I will post this in the Europe forum as well)

Gate 1 is a moderately priced budget minded cruise line. You might want to read the reviews on the CruiseCritic website which are generally favorable.

I have not, just a heads up to read and take seriously their “know before you go - high and low water” segment on how that might affect your trip.
