Rhodes
 

Just looking for suggestions on things we should do on our 1 day stop in Rhodes. We prefer not to just lay on the beach as we are both very active and want to see things.

The ship will be at a pier within 1/4 mile of the entrance to the old town. (Good views in the last 1/2 hour of the "Guns of Navaronne."

The tourist office is close within the entrance and the self-guided walking tours are fascinating. Wander beyond the streets near the harbor and you will find good shopping and very pleasant shop keepers.

The old city of Rhodes has the mother church and castle of the Knights of Rhodes as well as many other attractions. I would avoid any tours to Lindos, because it it crowded to the point of difficult walking as well as having lost its charm over the years.

I agree that a self-guided walking tour of the Old City is a wonderful way to spend a day.

We hired a private car/guide and not only saw the Old City, but drove to Lindos and got a chance to see some of that area. We really enjoyed our full day. Had lunch by the beach in Lindos. See www.rhodesprivatetours.com

We did a cruise ship tour of Lindos and weren't disappointed. I'm not so sure you'd do better with a private tour, but we didn't hit the crowds that are possible other times of the year. Also had lots of time to walk around the Old City (self-guided).

The self guide tour is great, visit the street of the knights and the castle at the top. Many great places to stroll and explore. If your into shopping tons of that as well.
