Regal Princess vs Celebrity Mercury?

Planning a Scandanavian cruise in 2001 & can't decide. Have been on both cruise lines before and food was not good on either. Did prefer Princess overall, however. Internet feedback has been mixed. Anyone been on either of these ships recently, or has anyone any comments on a Scandanavian/Baltic cruise?
Hi Betty,

I was all set to say Celebrity .... hands down .... until I read your post.

You are the first one that I know of that did not enjoy Celebrity food.

Paul

I didn't like Celebrity's food also - I thought it was terrible.

That is a tough decision - I would say Princess (because I prefer the line) but I like Princess's newer ships and not sure how much I would like the Regal Princess.

Good luck! I really want to do that cruise also sometime - though I want a newer ship to sail on.
Beef, poultry, fish, soups, desserts, appetizers .... all terrible? You must have lost an awful lot of weight.

Paul

We just got back from the Mercury and LOVED the food. Both my husband and I thought the food couldn't have been better. We had absolutely no complaints about Mercury - everything was perfect!

We didn't like the food either. It looked pretty but didn't have any flavor. Our table consistently had to send our food back because it was prepared improperly - asked for medium rare, received well done, etc. .

We also thought that Princess had a better selection and was more consistent in quality.

I agree with Paul. I just got off the Mercury last Friday - not one bad meal, and steaks cooked perfectly. I don't know how they do it with so many passengers.

Food on Princess is mystery meat to me on most of the sailings....don't like the Grand Princess at all...cabins are like tunnels. However, I did love the Regal to S. Caribbean. Food lousy, but an overall fun time and a nice cabin.

I find among my pals that sailing is a love-hate relationship. Go with what your heart says and you'll probably be satisfied. I personally wouldn't book another Princess cruise unless I had
traveling companions who insisted.

If I was going to Scandinavia, I'd do a hurtigruten with Bergen cruise line. It's a totally different cruising experience, but you really get the feel for that wonderful country, Norway.

This just goes to show that everyone has his or her own opinions in taste, quality, variety, etc., in food (and cruises, and shore excursions, and entertainment, etc.). You get my point. I’ve been on 7 cruises (NCL, RCCL, Carnival, Princess) and I would say 90% of my meals have been excellent with others being very good to “eh, it was okay,” I suppose each ship is different, including within the same line.
