Recommended Alaska cruise
Hi all,
My husband and I, along with my sister-in-law and her husband are looking into Alaskan cruises for 2014. We are all over age 50 and will not be traveling with children. We don't want a huge cruise ship. I had my mind set on Regent seven Seas but was not impressed with reviews on cruise critic. The other option was Holland America. Any experiences or recommendations will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance :) |
I highly recommend Lindblad's expedition boats, National Geographic Sea Bird and National Geographic Sea Lion. www.expeditions.com. Small shipsthat go places other ships can't go. Off the boat twice a day exploring on zodiacs.70-90 passengers.

My first cruise ever was on Holland America's Zaandam. For me it set the bar (and got me hooked on cruising) One suggestion is that you DO NOT just do a 7 day cruise of the inside passage. Look into doing a cruise tour and see the inland parts of Alaska, such as Denali. If your cruise departs Seward (Anchorage) arrive ahead and perhaps do a Kenai Fjords catamaran and other things around anchorage. The Alaska RR is great!

Hpeabody, we hadn't thought of that. Sounds like a great way to see more of Alaska.
Getting excited for this trip. |
We spent ten days or so driving south from Anchorage to Kenai Peninsula first and then north to Denali area. Then we flew Anchorage to Juneau to board ship. Cruise ended in Sitka, interesting place as is Sitka. We also went on the Sea Lion in Baja, following the whales. Excellent naturalists on board, and very interesting fellow travelers. This ship docks in a marina area with private boats. Cruise ships are at a different dock elsewhere in Juneau. We saw whales constantly.

We have been to Alaska a few days. Alaska is different from other destination in the world. Every day offers an memorable memory. It is known for cruising, fishing, traveling.

You might want to check out my www.AlaskaCruisingReport.com. It lists and describes the
24 different big and little cruiselines which are sending a whopping 50 big and little vessels to ply the waters of Alaska's Inside Passage and beyond in 2013. |
Holland America ships are big. Too bad Cruise West is toasted as they have good small ship cruises to Alaska. I wonder if they have resurfaced under a new name.
