Recommended activity/shore excursion in Nassau?
 

I am going on a 3 night cruise in April with friends. We stop in Nassau and Cococay. From what I've read, CocoCay will be a good "beach day" for relaxing & maybe snorkeling (divided comments).
I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions of a good excursion or tour while docked in Nassau? I went on a similar cruise 3 years ago & was not impressed with the brief tour of the island & stroll up the one main streeet for shopping (shops closed at 5 pm, just an hour after we got back from our lunch & "tour" that included a tower/lighthouse & the Atlantis resort). We did this on on our own, not through the ship's shore excursion booking).
Please suggest other options that may be a better way to spend our time & money! There was a group on our ship that did the "Yellowbird Party boat" tour, and they seemed to have a great time, but if that is just drinking & getting sun, we can do that on the ship or at CocoCay the next day. Please advise, based on your experience.

I am really not a fan of Nassau and have often stayed aboard to enjoy the quiet of the ship, which is mostly deserted, while we are docked in Nassau. Bay Street is not very interesting IMO.

I have found a little spot where I go to enjoy freshly made - right in front of you - conch salad and a nice, cold Kalik. It is about a 40 minute walk from the docks. We go and have lunch there and sit outside. It is out of the mainstream and enjoyable, at least for us.

Goldies is the place. It has been there forever and used to be a shack, literally, but now it is a real building, although do not expect anything at all fancy, or air conditioned!

Not a bad idea, since I was not a fan of Nassau after the one time I was there. We did go to an out-of-the way little place to eat that it seemed locals went to (cab driver took us)and there were several "food shacks" over there. I think it was "Two Brothers."
Maybe we will try Goldie's this time!

Maybe you are not looking for a beach since you are going to cococay, but my favorite for others who may be interested is Cabbage Beach on Paradise Island. It is a public beach not well known by cruisers. You can actually see the Atlantis from the beach, but it is way down on the south end away from all the hotels. The locals go here. After many stops in Nassau basically bored out of my mind I discovered this place and it was immediately put on my personal "best beaches" list. Take a taxi from the pier. Free entry, no facilities.

you could always swim with the dolphins which is what I did when I was down there.

You can swim with the Dolphins at Blue Lagoon Dolphin Encounters. It is a short ferry ride from the dock or Paradise Island.
