RCCL Rhapsody out of Galveston

Has anyone sailed on Rhapsody of RCCL out of Galaveston lately? Would like to know your overall opinion of ship..service,facilites,food,health club,shows....and customers. Looking for "as luxury as can possibly be had" for Galveston departure....have been on Crystal and on Voyager of the Seas..loved both. We are married,in our 40's...I like the itinerary...just want to have comments on this ship.....trying to avoid "cheesy". Thanks for any comments!

My husband and I took a week long cruise on the Rhapsody of the Seas last February(when it was then sailing the Mexican Riviera). It was only our second cruise and we were quite impressed. RCCL in our minds is excellent. Never a disappointment. In fact, we're booked on another RCCL cruise out of Miami next month. Enjoy!

We are also leaving out of Galveston next summer - I'd read there is a parking lot at the pier (or near the pier with a shuttle) and the car can be left there for a week at a per diem amount. But would be interested in hearing from anyone who as sailed on this itinerary concerning departure, excursions, etc. - we were on the sister ship Visions of the Sea two years ago and enjoyed it (not the most luxurious but very nice). Certainly a good bet for our family group (80 to 8 weeks) - will be similar spread of ages this trip.

We just returned (6/1/02) from the Rhapsody of the Seas cruise that was out of Galveston. We really enjoyed the cruise. The service was excellent as was our suite (C cat on Deck 8). The food was adequate and good. It was not gourmet. Some people at our table ate 2 or 3 entrees at dinner. Some ate 2 or appetizers. We had massages and "wraps" at the spa. They were excellent but a bit pricey. From what I have read Rhapsody of the Seas is about the same as Voyager of the Seas.

The best part of the cruise was leaving out of Galveston. We were told we could board at 1:00 pm but decided to try boarding earlier. Apparently everyone else had the same idea. We sat in the car about 1/2 an hour until we could unload our baggage. There are plenty of porters when you reach the dock so it is very easy. Then we drove to the parking lot, paid for the week's stay, rode a shuttle back to the dock. The shuttle dropped us off in front of the area where you check in. We had all of our forms filled in and our passports with us. We were ushered to a special line for people with suites. Our pictures were taken before boarding the ship. That all took less than 15 minutes.

When we got back it was just as easy. The ship docked, the immigration agents handled everyone right on the ship. Our baggage was easy to find, a porter a bit harder but we were on the road within 2 - 3 hours after docking. Most of the time we spent sitting in a lounge on the ship awaiting the call for our group (determined by label on baggage).

We drove down from Dallas on Saturday and spent the night in Houston. (Galveston was all booked up for Memorial Day weekend.) I'd advise that because you don't have to worry about construction, traffic jams, etc on IH45.

We're taking another cruise out of Galveston later this year.
