Radisson vs Dawn Princess
 

We loved the Dawn Princess (mini suite) and I'm told we'd really love the Radisson. I noticed the size of the ships are much smaller tho. I'm wondering if we'd feel like the ship was too small. We enjoyed the public areas on the Dawn and walking a bit. We noticed most of the ship was taken up with long halls with cabins tho.

Is there enough public space for us to enjoy on the Radisson -- around a 40 ton ship or should we stick with the Princess. The cabin is of prime importance.

I've sailed on Princess as well as Radisson ships. Which Radisson ship are you considering? If you liked the minisuite on Princess, you will absolutely LOVE Radisson. It's like comparing oranges and apples. After cruising on a ship with fewer passengers, excellent service in all regards, you'll be spoiled for life. I would definitely cruise on Radisson so you have a basis for comparison. Have you looked at the cruisecritic.com Radisson message board? There's lots of helpful information there. There are lots of public areas on the Radisson ships and you will never feel that the ship is too small. Besides the cabins, the dining is out of this world. It's also nice that liquor at dinner and in your cabin is complimentary and no tips at the end of the cruise. If I knew which ship you're considering, I can give you more information.

Actually I would want the largest ship they have -- we liked the Dawn Princess that was 77,000 tons and I believe all of the Radisson are much smaller. We definitely like amenities like a theater show & a lounge show, also enjoy lounches where we might hear music before or after dinner. A small casino would be nice too. I just don't want too small of a ship that we would feel crowded with no place to go.

Radisson Seven Seas is an exquisite experience and a level (or two) above Princess in quality and experience. Radisson is on a par with Crystal Cruises with smaller ships, a more intimate experience, smaller staff to guest ratio, very personal service. They are a more boutique cruise line whereas Princess is a more mass-market cruise line. The service on Radisson is amazing and people return from their cruises raving about the care that they received. You will be spoiled!

Lois, I believe you would be happiest on either the Voyager or the Mariner. These ships are around 50,000 tons with around 600 passengers (or less). You will have everything you could ever want and then some. The Navigator is around 33,000 tons but still a perfect size IMO. I think Radisson is considered a 6 star cruiseline where Princess is more like a 4 star cruiseline. You will love Radisson...they do things right.

We sailed around Cape Horn on Royal Princess with a balcony suite, several years ago, and enjoyed it. 1000 passengers is now our limit. The next cruise was on RSSC's Mariner, and from then on we were hooked ! We cruised Mariner again, and last Oct. sailed on the new Voyager. We leave on Voyager on the 13th. April. We are 100% satisfied with every aspect of these wonderful ships and the Radisson Company. We have met wonderful people on every cruise, and the food ? Well. Equal to the finest restaurants anywhere. Unlimited vintage wine with dinner and complimentary liquor in the cabin and no tipping. Perfection.

This off the topic, but did you get enough use of your balcony on the Royal Princess around the cape to make it worthwhile? I love the Royal and I want to make that trip sometime. Thanks!
