Question about cabin upgrade

Was thinking about upgrading our cabin for our 12-night Western Mediterranean cruise this Sep. I am going with my Mom and sister and we are worried about tripping over each other and getting on each other's nerves. Currently the three of us (all female) are staying in an ocean view cabin. Called Celebrity today and they have a guarantee of a family ocean view stateroom with verandah for an extra $3300 (total). So if they don't have any of these cabins, we are guaranteed to get a larger cabin (suite) for the same rate. Has anyone ever done this guarantee rate and if you have, what did you end up getting? Was getting the larger cabin worth it? We have 3 days at sea and the rest of the cruise will be packed with port visits, so we will theoretically only be in the room to sleep and shower. Part of me wants to save the money, but another part likes the idea of a larger cabin. Any thoughts?

If $$ is no object then go for the extra room. Its much nicer, esp. for a 12 day cruise.

Which Celebrity ship are you on? The cabin sizes vary on the different ships.

Celebrity Summit. I think I will wait to see if the prices go down and maybe book 2 regular rooms so we will have 2 bathrooms!

Regarding bathrooms on ships. Somebody posted on Fodor's an excellent advice! They pick out a cabin close to public restrooms, so while somebody is in the shower, another one can use the loo and mirrors there :)

My husband and I book the least expensive rooms because we are never in it. When it comes time to clean up, one of us reads a book on deck, has a drink in the bar, etc. while the other one cleans up. Then we switch. Works out well, and we are not "bumping butts". I would rather spend the money on something else on the trip.

I am on that same cruise & I have been toiling over whether to upgrade to Concierge Class. I am in an inside room (my father, who has cruised extensively, asks WHY I need a window) with my partner. I have heard that the rooms are rather spacious on this ship, but it would be nice to get some of the perks associated with CC... It is not primarily a matter of money, but I hate to spend money when I don't really have to.

Update: I ended up getting a good deal on a CC class cabin. Got a senior discount because my mom is with us. I feel a lot better about my decision and am glad we will have the balcony!

Having done a Mediterranean cruise with a balcony - you will SO enjoy it. Because of the nature of the cruise, you will probably alot more time on it than say, a Caribbean cruise. I used to have coffee and breakfast delivered every morning at 6:30 and enjoy it out on my balcony watching the Mediterranean (which is the most amazing color of blue) and the shore line when we were close to land (which happened more than many other cruises). You will LOVE it. I took the Summit to Alaska last year - I enjoyed that ship, and the staff was great.
