Progreso Tours
We have just booked on the Grandeur in October. We are looking for information about tours out of Progreso, Mexico. RCCL doesn't seem to have any listed for that destination.

Hi Mike,

Check out the Carnival Pride. It has the tours listed and will be the same as RCCL. You can also wait for your documents to arrive where the tours will be listed.

Paul

Mike, I was on the Pride in June 2002 and I took the ship's excursion to Chichen Itza. It was great. The ship charged $75 per person, which included everything (2 1/2 bus ride each way, box lunch and entrance into Chichen Itza).

It is cheaper than even having a haxi take you that far. I did not want to stick around Progresso and was not too excited about seeing the limited offerings of Merida.

If your look at book online excursions on RCCL web site. They have Progresso excursions listed. You have to put a booking # first. You do not have to go ahead a book though. You can just check it out. Also doing Oct. Grandeur.

I actually spent 6 nights in Merida Mexico about 4 years ago. We went to Progresso, but I think that was before the cruises came in. It was lovely and had a wonderful beach. We found a cute little restaurant and spent a lot of time there. Uxmal is quite close to Merida, I would think that would be easier to get to than Chichen Itza. I do highly recommend a ruins tour. It was amazing to think of the people building them so long ago with such presision, the temples are aligned with the sun, and its just really amazing. As for Merida, I loved it there. They have an archeology museum and the oldest church in Mexico. This is a true Mexican city, unlike visiting Cancun.

Chichen Itza is the largest of the ruins and it is a bit farther from Progeso than Uxmal which is the most beautiful.

Passengers should realize that Merida is a huge metropolis second only to Mexico City. There certainly is quite a bit to see and do but the historical district is not that large. If one enjoys large cities such as you Melissa it would be a nice place to visit for a day.

The beach in Progeso is very nice but there are no facilities. With the complimentary bus you could always buzz back and forth to the ship.

Paul
