Private Tour Guide needed for Marseilles for trip to Aix-en- Provence July 7

Does anyone know the best way to travel from the port of Marseilles, France to Aix-en-Provence. We would like to walk around the town AND see the new Cezanne exhibit.

We are 6 people, cruising on Royal Caribbean's Voyager of the Seas, July 1-8, 2006. We will be in:

Provence (Marseilles), France on July 7, 7 AM to 7 PM (2 of people need to be back on ship by 3:00 PM to
teach a course.) WE WOULD LIKE TO GO TO AIX-EN- PROVENCE TO SEE THE SITES, TOUR CEZANNE'S
STUDIO, GO TO MUSEE GRANET, and follow your recommendations.

We are looking for a licensed English speaking tour guide to take us to the sites at this port. What would be a reasonable tour of the area?

Also would like cost of tour.

Thank you for your help.

You might want to post your message again on the Europe board.

You say two people need to be back on ship by 3:00; what about the rest of you?

If you want to go to Aix for some sightseeing, probably your best bet is to take the train there from Marseille.

When you say you want a guide to see sights at the port, do you want one also for Aix?

It looks like only 2 of us will be going up to Aix-en-Provence. We are interested in seeing the Cezanne exhibit and walking through the town. I believe we would need to get tickets to the museum. I am not sure a guide is needed (unless that is the only way we can get tickets to the exhibit.) Is it reasonable to rent a car from the port? Or is the train close by the port? Do you know the price of the cabs to Aix? We are looking for something from 8AM to 3:00PM.
Thanks for your help!

I am waiting for a reply also.

Need a private tour guide for Marseilles and then perhaps over to Aix-en- Provence.

Thanks

You can take the train from Marseilles to Aix, and once there all you need is a guidebook.

Taking a cab to Aix would be pretty expensive--I wouldn't even want to make a guess--and slower than the train. While you could rent a car (probably at the train station), one-day rentals are also quite costly--and parking in Aix is not easy to come by.

For guides, go to the Marseille or Aix-en-Provence tourist web sites.

We used Tania from Provence Tours last Sept., and she was good. At the time, she charged 312 euros for 4 people.

Meant to say that the price included picking us up and dropping us off at the ship, and a full day tour.

We are sailing in September and one of our stops is Marseille. We are traveling with another couple and have hired Cathrine who comes recommended off cruisecritic.com Her price is a bit higher than your other suggestion but she is a licensed guide. 4 people for 420 euros. We will be going to Aix and tour the small towns around there and Cassis on our way back. Hope you have a great trip.
