Private Dining

Does any cruise ship offer private dining? My huband would like to be able to eat dinner with just the 2 of us. We are the type of people who like to spend time alone and dont want to spend an entire meal with other people we dont know. I know some ships you can eat at some places on the ship with just the two of us but we would like to eat in the dining room also.

Many cruise ships have tables for two, but the number is often limited. You can also order room service dinner.

Have your travel agent request a table for two.

On the Star Princess last year, we ate every night but one at a table for two. They have "personal choice" dining and after the first night, we liked the waiter and busboy so much, we ate at the same table every night.

Hi jiffer-
NCL Cruise Lines is the only cruise line that offers "freestyle" dining all the time. You eat when you want and with whom you want in the dining room. My husband and I also enjoy dining alone and we always eat alone in the dining room. We usually are the first ones seated and get a table for two by the window, but you can come in anytime the dining room is open and if there are no tables for two, they will seat you at a larger table but no one else will join you. You'll have the table to yourself. We love it and we won't travel on any other cruise line because of this feature.

Princess also offers "anytime" dining which is the same as the NCL "freestyle". Princess also offers a dining room for 'Fixed" seating at 2 different dining times. We have sailed on both cruise lines and enjoyed the freedom to chose when to eat. We never had a problem getting a table for 2,3,6 or 8 people. The dining options are explained on their web sites.

With Princess' personal choice dining, you can phone each morning and reserve a table for two for whatever time you'd like to dine that night. That way you won't have to wait. Even without a reservation, my husband and I did not have trouble getting a table for two late (about 9:00) each evening. It was more crowded earlier in the evenings and I'd recommend a reservation.

Our last cruise was on the Norwegian Sky last year and it was our first opportunity to have dinner at a table for two every night. We really enjoyed that.
We're booked on the Galaxy in November and tables for two were available when we confirmed and so we opted for one. I would check out Celebrity but as abram said, most lines probably have some tables for 2 and it just may be how early you book as to whether one is avaiable. (We booked our November cruise in early February).

Good luck! I agree that it is nice to sit as a couple over dinner!
