Princess VS Carnival

My wife and I are booking a cruise for March 2000. We are both late 30's in age and trying to decide between the Sea Princess and Carnival Sensation. We were hoping this group could provide some insights in helping us decide.
We just received a quote on the Sea Princess and Carnival Sensation. $400.00 price difference on inside cabin catagory. Is Princess the better choice for the extra cost? Not sure what the basic cruising difference is between the two.
Princess Cays sounds like a fun stop. Has anyone been there recently? New Orleans also sounds fun. Have heard negetive comments on Jamaica.

Thanks for your comments.

My husband and I and another couple (we are all mid 20's) are sailing the March 12th Sensation celebrating our 1st anniversaries. We are on a tight budget and got a great deal, that is the main reason we are sailing it. I have heard alot of negative comments about sailing Carnival during Spring Break (March- April), which is when we are going. I think it just depends what you want- a quiet, relaxing cruise, or a slightly more electric experience like Carnival.
We are excited about the craziness that may happen! Good luck!

I was on Carnival's Fascination over Spring Break one year and thought it was "loud and obnoxious". I am in my 20's and vowed never to go Carnival during Spring Break again. I was on the Sea Princess and LOVED the ship - it is only a year old (verses an aging Sensation ship), the food was much better and the quality of the ship was also better. Princess Cays was the highlight of the trip and Jamaica was the lowest part of the cruise - beautiful island but the people are really pushy. Email me if you have further questions.

I've been on 12 Carnival cruises. Spring break is not so bad from the college kids i'ts more the children you will encounter. I think there were 750 little rugrats on the spring break week I went on. Hated it and swore never again during any school vacation. So beware of those months. Other than that Carnival is a lot of fun. E-mail me directly and let me know where your going and I can give you advice on tours and stuff to do.

Markg,

Carnival & Pricess are ships of different taste. From what I read of others review and comparison(check out other's review on the two different ships): the Carnival, you will find younger crowd and more Vagas-like atomsphere. On Princess, your lifestyle on board would be more calm, but their service and entertainment would be better.

If you think Princess is a bit pricy; I would suggest RCCL or Celebrity. Research is always good. (Try cruiseopinion.com)

Hope this help.

I am a travel agent and have sailed all the ships of Carnival and Princess.

I found the Sensation just about the best of all the Carnival ships. Also it leaves from Tampa which is a retirement port. I took a cross section of ages and found 70% retired, 25% mid and 5% children. The ship is still a lot of fun. The decor is, of course eclectic. The service, food, entertainment is very good and the ship is clean.

The sea princess is a horse of a different color. It is extremely classy, the service is a tad better since there is more staff.
I think the food is just as good albiet a tad more gourmet. You will have to pay for items on the ship which is complimentary on Carnival, but you do get free bathroom amenities on Princess. The entertainment on Princess is
Broadway while on Carnival it is Vegas with a lot of smoke, lasers and mirrors.

Jamaica still has not finished building it's new port therefore all ships dock in nowhereland and one can not go for a walk. You must take a taxi or a tour to go anywhere. But do not be afraid of Jamaica. The natives are pushy but that is their nature. They are harmless. You are more in danger in our big U.S. cities.
Jamaicans ARE friendly.

I do think the Sensation has a tad better itinerary. New Orleans has a wonderful boardwalk and a beautiful park at the end. Just to see and hear the riverboats is an experience. Of course Bourbon Street is lively 24 hours a day.

If you wish to save money, I would choose Sensation. If you want class and a little less fun go Princess. Usually you make your own fun.

I love cruising and do not have any negative comments on any line (except one, which I will not mention here). Hopefully that particular line will be sold in the next few weeks.

Bon Voyage, Paul

Just returned from the Sear Princess. First ime on Princess-last time on Clebrity Century. Princess Cays was a fun day at the beach-wave runners, and a great bbq.
The entire experience was very good and we would recommend it. I have not been on Carnival and have no plans to go-too many Princess and Celebrity cruises to check out first. Why mess with good food, service and accomodations. Plus no parties in the hallway!

We are booked on Celebrity Century for June, with our two kids, but now have a chance to get a good deal on the Sea Princess on short notice (which would mean taking our kids out of school)
Having been on both ships, which do you recommend?
Sheila
