Power converters for onboard cruise
We are travelling on Celebrity Silhouette around the Adriatic and Mediterranean in Sep/Oct. The tour brochure says (under "Voltage/Adapters") "the onboard voltage is 110/220 AC...please ensure you bring any necessary US or European adapters."
This is not very helpful, as all adapters that I've seen retailed talk in terms of country or region, not voltage. We are from NZ where 230v is used, and our main power usage will be for recharging a camera, mobile phones, and an iPad or android tablet. My researches show that Europe also uses 230v, whereas USA uses 120v. I assume we'll need adaptors because of different pin configurations on the plugs, but for what country/region - Europe or USA? Will we need power converters as well, for the differences in voltage? |
We cruised on NCL and RCI in Europe, they had both US and European plugs.

Assuming you have British Standard plugs, you should get adapters for European receptacles. I think you should avoid getting adapters for the US plugs, as the lower voltage will mean very slow charging of your devices. If you need a power supply for USB ports,I was able to get a four port device with four different adapters from the Rakuten web site. It was very useful on an African trip in which it is possible to need three different plug configurations in one day.

Our stateroom on Celebrity Reflection and suite on Celebrity Eclipse had an outlet for US plugs and an outlet for European plugs, both at desktop level. You would need a UK plug adapter and you'd want to use the European outlet.
We had no need to search for more outlets--think the bedside lamps, etc., may have been hard-wired. |
Sorry, twoflower, no need for a British plug adapter unless you have UK appliances.
For NZ appliances you'll need European plug adapters. If you want to use the US outlet for electronics that are 110/220 you can with a US adapter. |
Related tip - if you have a lot of power stuff or chargers, bring a small power strip or multi-plug thing; there are never many outlets on a ship.
