Passports needed?
 

I needed to know if a passport is extremely necessary for a cruise to Cozumel/Cancun. Will a birth certificate be sufficient??

We cruised there 3 years ago and NO we did not need a passport. If you were born in the U.S. you do not need a passport to go to Mexico. The problem would be if you are not a U.S. citizen, getting back to the U.S. A birth certificate should suffice.

As stated above, if you are a US citizen a birth certificate is fine but you also need an official picture ID such as a driver's license. Be sure that the birth cert. has a raised seal from the state where issued. If you are married, you'll need a copy of your marriage lic. to verify the change of name from that listed on the birth certificate. ( This isn't always needed but better to be on the safe side ) Have a wonderful cruise. We were there in March on the Mercury.

Passport for husband and me, raised seal birth certificate for two small kids and marriage license for me as I use maiden and marragie name together? Do I really need copy of marraige license?

Marilyn is absolutely correct. Mexico in particular can be sticky with documents altho cruise ships generally get away with a little less than those flying in. I too would take a marriage license if you changed your name - isn't it better to have something you don't need, rather than get to the ship and be refused boarding because you don't have the proper documents. The nice thing about cruises is that once the cruise line checks your documents, you won't need them again. <BR> <BR>Is this the only cruise or travel you plan to do? I find most people get "hooked" on the Caribbean fairly quickly and if you start going frequently, then a passport is certainly easier than the BC and photo ID. It is NEVER questioned and NEVER refused. They are only $65 and are good for 10 years, then renewals are only $40. I'm now on my 3rd passport and have never regretted getting it, even though I only go to the Caribbean and Mexico.
